What was your favorite indulgence food-wise when you were a kid? Or what was a special meal or treat you remember fondly?

I have a couple...

1 - Whenever I had lunch with my grandpa, we had Dinty Moore over toast. While not a great food, the memories were priceless.

2 - My grandma would make pizza that I always thought was amazing due to how crisp the crust got. It took like 10 years before I realized it was just Tombstone cooked on one of those pizza pans with tons of holes in the bottom.

3 - Shwans Orange Push-Pops at the grandparent's.

4 - Popcorn with my grandpa out of these old aluminum popcorn bowls.

  1. Anything my grandma would make, but especially the homemade chicken and biscuits.
  2. The dinner rolls at any family holiday get together.
  3. That high school metabolism + a box of hostess chocolate donut gems, mountain dew, and a day off of school.

I was struggling to come up with something but you triggered my memory.

I used to dominate any kind of baked bread. Those super yeasty frozen rolls, Texas Roadhouse, pillsbury croissants, anything buttery and bready.

1. My grandma (mom's side) would make homemade beef and noodles or chicken and noodles for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. So good.
2. Working in the field with my dad and grandpa. Grandma (dad's side), would bring us lunch. Always a turkey or ham sandwich for me with extra mayo and lettuce and a bag of plain chips with a thermos of lemonade. I need to go back to 1980.

I remember having 5 or 6 of those at Thanksgivings, and now I question if the carbs are worth it.

Goulash from 1 grandma and BLT's from a friends mom. The friends parents have a really nice pool and she would bring out platters of those things when we were over.

Edit: Left out the best that is still a guilty pleasure. Same grandma makes the best pumpkin bars anyone's ever had. She still sends me home with a batch at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She gave me the recipe a few years ago but I'm scared to mess it up.

My Grandpa (mom's side) would make me and my brother fried bologna sandwiches, I wouldn't probably eat that now, but man I loved that as a kid.
My Grandma (dad's side) made chicken and dumplings and I would go ham on that. Miss her, her cooking was legendary, anything she made was delicious!

My family always made a German “scrambled pancakes” dish that came from my moms side. We only made it on weekend mornings we weren’t busy which was rare. Put some butter and syrup on it in a bowl, stir, and it’s amazing. I miss the days of being able to eat 3 bowls of that stuff with no consequences!!

That reminded me that bologna and kraft singles sandwiches that were a staple of my 80s/90s diet. I don't think my kids would recognize oscar meyer bologna as being for human consumption if they saw it.

You just described the eating habits of my 17 year old son. Anything bread related and he will destroy all of it. He literally will order himself a dozen Texas Roadhouse rolls for takeout just for himself at times.
