That is a direct quote from @JM4CY, as is the below. I want to make very sure nobody thinks these hilarious words came from me:

“I ripped my undies putting them on today. Not because I’m fat (honestly) but because I don’t throw away anything and keep certain things way beyond what might be reasonable because I’m cheap. That pair was going on probably 10+ years of service. Or like dress shoes for work. Mine probably look like hell but they get the job done, just like my briefs. What everyday items do you keep way beyond what some might consider sane?”

I packrat construction supplies. Every usable scrap of 2 x 4, plywood, trim, screws, nails, washers, etc. It's amazing how often I find just the right thing in the garage when I need to repair something.

I just bought my son a gaming chair for his birthday, and they didn't completely drill out a hole enough for a bolt to fit down through, so I dug around and found a pack of washers from something or other and they fit the bolt perfectly and allowed me to tighten it up.

Shorts. I noticed they're getting frayed. It's time to go to Kohl's while they're still a thing.

I also had some sneakers wear out in the heel recently and repurposed some old running shoes that have a worn soul but are still way better than getting my heal cut.

Underwear till they are worn out.
Never have changed my plates and bowls in over 20 yrs they don't wear out why change them.
Vehicles run them till they have a major failure. Had over 250,000 on the last 2 the pick up became undependable for long trips (do a lot of deliveries) rolled the car on I90 last winter so now have a better pick up (only 110,000 miles) and a car with only 10,000. I think I keep them longer than most though you do see a lot of older vehicles on the roads it seems.

I have a shirt from the 1988 Iowa High School Football Playoffs.

Still wear that thing even if there isn't much left.

I keep all clothing way too long. A 10 year old shirt is still "new" to me.

I definitely have shirts that are older than my middle schooler!

I still have my "BEER GOGGLES, DRINK TILL SHE'S CUTE" tank top from the VEISHEA 1988 riots.

I definitely have shirts that are older than my middle schooler!

There's some movie my wife and I watched about Uma Thurman as a "cougar" dating a younger man. There's a line in there to the effect of, "Ack, I can't believe you're that age. I have t-shirts older than you!"

Dress shirt "collar stays." You only really need 2 in your life but I have like a hundred.

I just did my travel underwear/sock thing. Learned this from a real old-timer.

Instead of immediately throwing away beyond-its-use-date socks and underwear, I stockpile it and wear it one last time when I travel. Then I can just toss it in the trash at the hotel after use. Saves packing space in the suitcase on the way home. But the best part is, you're not packing stinky underwear and socks in your suitcase when you move to your next trip location.

Yes, I have underwear from the 00's. But as of last week, about 3 fewer pair.

Probably the oldest clothing items I have are a couple of concert tees from the 70's and early 80's.
