Was in a conversation with a bunch of friends this weekend talking about favorite movies. Do you have a single favorite movie ever made? Top 5? Top Ten? I have a top three and trying to expand but keep it to a top ten is incredibly difficult.

My Top Three (no order):
  • Zodiac (David Fincher)
  • The Insider (Michael Mann)
  • Magnolia (Paul Thomas Anderson)
Rounding out top ten (no order)
  • JFK (Oliver Stone)
  • True Romance (Tony Scott)
  • Blood Simple (Coen Brothers)
  • Young Frankenstein (Mel Brooks)
  • Wall*E (Pixar)
  • Psycho (Hitchcock)
  • Rear Window (Hitchcock)
Almost made the cut:
  • No Country For Old Men (Coen Brothers)
  • The Prestige (Christopher Nolan)
  • Waiting for Guffman (Christopher Guest)
  • Gosford Park (Robert Altman)
  • Green Mile (Frank Darabont)
  • Michael Clayton (Tony Gilroy)
  • Road to Perdition (Sam Mendes)
  • The Birdcage (Mike Nichols)

Sequel to JFK? ;)

No particular order for my top 10

Gattaca
Ex Machina
Drive
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Equilibrium
Casino
Armageddon
Big Short
Shawshank Redemption
Parasite

Yea there might be some recency bias in there but this list changes for me basically yearly so it's an ever evolving list and I think that's OK to me.

You have a very strange list. I've never heard of half of them. I would never watch several of them on your list, but most specifically, The Prestige. It just looks dark and awful to me.

My favorite movie list would start with something more widely know.

Independence Day would be featured somewhere in the top 5, along with The Longest Day, Die Hard, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and maybe one or two other of the Indiana Jones movies. That's really all I can come up with is a top 5 off the top of my head, but I'm old and forgetful.

We're in the same taste realm. Good stuff! I just watched Michael Clayton again two nights ago. It's one of the best movies in the past three decades.

Magnolia is 100% not for everyone. But it's ******* brilliant in so many ways. I watch it like three times a year.
