In the vid below these guys have ISU ranked 13th out of 14 teams in the Big12, finishing 3-6 in conference, 5-7 overall.

If you read Big12 news, nobody gives ISU an afterthought. We’re on nobody’s radar, it’s all K-State, TX, OU, TCU. Even Kansas gets more love now, not to mention the new additions.

Where do all of you think ISU will finish and why? Let’s hear those opinions.

I have zero expectations for next fall. The forecast you mention is entirely realistic. Three Conf wins might be optimistic. I’m not sure who they will be.

ISU at 5-7/3-6 appears reasonable, given the schedule.

I don't have time now to compare the schedules for each team, but I would be shocked if 10 of the 14 are 4-5 or 5-4. It could be clustered in the middle, but I can't see it being that balanced.

At least one is going to drop to 2-7 or worse and at least one gets to 7-2 or better.

I don’t think there is much reason to rank us any higher. We were woeful on offense and lose our only impact player in X, aside from maybe Noel. The offensive line will have to prove itself as will a revamped offensive coaching staff. We were good on defense but lost some high end players.

That said, I would not be surprised if we finish higher. We were a couple plays from winning in several games because Heacock gets it done. If Nate and the offense can turn a corner and ST is respectable we could win some of those games. I expect us to be competitive in every game.

If we’re being realistic, we should have low expectations. We can hope the group plays at a level greater than the sum of its parts. The most productive and consistent players from last year’s (bad) team have moved on. I’m really hoping to see better fundamentals, better discipline, and better Special Teams play. If we can do those things then we’ll start to look like the earlier CMC teams.

I have no idea and am going to try and not have expectations and hope it’s they surprise me. Maybe not to that degree (because nothing ever probably will be) but a year that’s 2017-esque.

We finished dead last in the conference last year at 4-8, and one could easily argue we are less talented on paper this year than last year.

It all comes down to the play of the OL folks. Everything depends on that. And second to that... the offensive scheme needs vast improvement IMO, but I'm not confident we'll see any changes there at all.

And bc quarterbacks don't rely on blocking and an effective run game either :jimlad:
Good point.

And one thing that’s wriggled it’s way out of Spring ball is the fact that we had more injuries on the OL than anyone guessed.

Given that we did know about all of the injuries at running back, a modest return to health at those two positions could easily mean substantial improvement.

No jimlad.

IMO a kicker is just as important this year.

Next fall I’ll feel good when we win a game (hope that happens more often than not). If we lose a game it won’t disturb me nearly as much. The only thing that I found disturbing last year was how many different ways the team found a way to lose. The inconsistent play was maddening.

Questions about OL, QB, kicker, offense, offensive coordinator. With our defense with Heacock, we are in most games. Hope Nate does well, wait and see mode for me. Promoting from within on a near historic ISU bad offense doesn't inspire super confidence. Hope I am way off.
