Didn't get the extra season:
This was a long shot from the get-go; Bill said that himself. She wanted to take a chance at getting a waiver, and they tried. Everyone involved knew it was an uphill battle and most likely going to be denied since she played in more than 30% of their regular season games. She plays at Iowa State. Shocker.
Just heard the news on KXNO and one of the guys said that she was as high as 4th in a WNBA mock, so that might not have been a realistic option for us anywayI'm pleased that they got this done quickly. Hopefully it is in time so she can enter the WNBA draft.
March 27th is the deadline for players to confirm eligibility for the WNBA draft, so we should get an NCAA decision on Soares soon.
Not to keep harping on the same point, but I will: I see zero path forward for her getting an extra year, so I think it's inevitable she will be denied. Following that, people will say the NCAA is screwing ISU, but it's simply not true. If the NCAA gave her a waiver, it would be inconsistent with other rulings unless there's some key piece of information we're missing.

You have no way of knowing that. NCAA rules state if you play in more than 30% of your team's (regular) season games. If she played at UCONN she would've had a much better chance.

She played part of one year in the NCAA. It would have been one thing if she had played NCAA basketball in other years. To all those complaining she clearly played more than what a injury waiver usually allows. I'm not shocked at this result.
No it wasn't. She played NAIA during COVID so she wasn't eligible for an NCAA COVID year. This was her COVID year.
