I did the maths and Minnesota sports fans do not want to read this.

In light of the Vikings losing yesterday, and the last major professional championship coming in 1991 from the Twins, I did some basic math to determine how odd it is that not one of the four major teams has won in 31 years.

There are some assumptions built in here. I assume each team has the same chance to win the championship as any other team in the league that year. It would be a Herculean task to determine the probability of every team in every individual season in every league. So, if MLB had 30 teams, each of these years the Twins had 1/30 chance to win the World Series. (Even less if playing the Yankees in the playoffs!)

The same goes for the NFL, NHL, and NBA. I used the probability of each season and the number of teams in each league. So...

A Minnesota sports team had a 97.9% chance to win a championship since 1992. There was only a 2.1% chance no professional team for Minnesota would win a championship in that time frame.

Pain.

I will say the Wild had a difficult time to win back until about 2000

You should replace the Wolves with the WNBA Minnesota Lynx since the Lynx are the only "professional" basketball team playing in the Target Center the last 20 years.

My family moved to Minnesota in 1969 (Just in time for the Chiefs to beat the Vikings in the Super Bowl). I was there until moving to Iowa in 1990. I just recently (last few years) realized I can no longer hang on to the 1987 and 1991 Twins spectacular seasons. Last night's Vikings game was just another game...saw it coming. Unbelievable no team can win from that state.

In professional sports, nothing is even. For example, the Twins will have very little chance to ever win the world series again in light of the payroll disparity.

If you wanna get really "Wild" with extra mini-layer …

The second most-recent appearance in a league title game/series by a Minnesota “Big 4 sports” franchise: North Stars (1991 Stanley Cup Finals, ~5 months prior to Twins WS win).

Roll the start date back from 1992 to 1987. Then how do we fare?

All of this begs the question of which team is most likely to win one in our lifetimes.

Would not argue with that. I hate to say it because I’d love to see the Twins or the Wolves be successful, but I todays day and age I just don’t see it happening anytime soon. Not with the big market baseball teams willing to spend what they do and not with the NBA super team trend.
