Anyone see the 'horror' movie M3GAN over the weekend?

Trailers have been out for months for the new 'horror' movie M3GAN...thought it looked so stupid. But then reviews came out and they're overly positive and it made $30M this weekend at the box office.

So we decided to go see it. My first gut thought was right. Man that is one horrible movie. One of the worst I've seen in a long long time.

I'm not interested in it at all but they must have done a good job with online marketing because my 3 step daughters are obsessed with it. They really want to see it, but they are 8 (twins) and 9. Their mom and I have told them no way, but we have no control over what their father lets them watch when he has them, and he lets them watch PG-13 movies.

I know they revamped the movie...it was originally a hard 'R' rating but they toned it down to PG13. Pretty dark for 8/9 year olds!

It’s a cool concept that Child’s Play can now be realistic modern day sci fi instead of fantasy/voodoo/mystical type of stuff.

Is it horror/comedy? I couldn't tell how self aware it was from the commercials.

That's what I was thinking and wondering if maybe it's one that grows into a cult type of deal but the previews looked really tacky.

I'm going to take the opposite tack here; I went in to see it last night with a couple of buddies and low expectations, and I ended up really enjoying it. Interesting concept and I think it, IMO, brought up some interesting questions on technology and connection, both between humans and all of our devices.

It's not the best movie I've ever seen, of course, but I found it compelling.

Good call on your part. I think it's borderline PG-13/R. Definitely some gory/violent moments and some jump thrills as well.

Man I'm not going to lie I still love going to the theater. Selfishly I hope they start holding these releases for longer before they go to streaming.

Some movies are still made for the theatrical setting, and although still good at home, you missed the best version of it by not seeing it in theaters. Top Gun Maverick is precisely this movie. It’s still really cool and good at home. But I watched it in the tricked out Dolby theater we have here in town and damn…you missed out on something if you didn’t experience it like that.

I honestly understand why it’s popular but there are so many plot holes that just would never ever happen with tech companies that I couldn’t stand it. Part of doing comms for large tech companies I guess ha

I just refuse to pay top dollar for more poorly written sequels, adaptations, remakes and the like. I did see Top Gun in theaters (The fiance wanted to go so we went to the dine in theater) but that was the only movie we saw in theaters last year.
