Listening to the Mike Gundy radio show

Said he doesn't care about PPG stat anymore and now cares about starting field position and PPP (possession) more. Said last week they averaged starting on 39 yd line vs Tech's 22.

He mentioned that next year incomplete passes may not stop clock until under 2 min left in half. Have I missed this news?

Well, they certainly need to do something to shorten the games. The ideal solution would be to reduce the number and the length of the media time outs, but that will never happen.

The older I get, the less I enjoy sitting through 3.5-4 hour games, especially when it's uncomfortably hot or cold outside. Heck, it's getting tough to sit through these marathon games even when it's nice outside.

I’m not a fan of the not stopping on incompletions. The fan friendly answer to shortening the games isn’t getting rid of plays. I’d rather they shorten snap clock 5 seconds, do split screen ads after kicks or something like that.
I love the split screen idea. It works for the EPL et al.

It's not official it's just been a possible recommendation by the CFB rules board to try and shorten the length of games which some games do go ungodly long now.

We have talked about it some in this thread:

I'm in the minority because I don't mind the length of games.

I will agree that the number of commercial breaks is annoying though.
Maybe you’re at the games too, but in person the long tv breaks are brutal.
Especially when there’s something like a timeout, followed by an injury so they take another tv break.
That’s what drags for me. I agree I don’t see a need to speed up game play.

Yeah, not a fan of changing a core rule of football just to shorten games. I would much rather they ditched a first down stopping the clock until the ball is set and the ref signals until after the 2:00 mark.

What would be best is if they just cut back on the ads, but we all know that's not going to happen lol

Whenever I see the video boards in the stadium, it reminds me of that scene where the dude is watching TV in Idiocracy:

Usually watch at neighbors garage so the kids can run around since their boys are same age as mine. I get another beer, shoot hoops or make sure the kids are still alive during the 2h of commercials, in that order.

I'm ok with a running clock personally or start the clock once the ball is placed like they do with the chains on first downs. That's the whole point of stopping the clock on an incomplete pass anyways.

Yup. And it turns out he is a pretty good FB coach. I was looking at his record the other day, and noticed that in 17 years at OkSU, he has never had 2 consecutive years of dropping win totals.

So many 10 win seasons. He's built a machine of excellence.

On the original topic, I'm ok with the clock running. It's different.
Doing it just to run more ads is less agreeable, but that's where all this goes.

I only notice the ads when we're on like espnu or w.e. and get like the same 3 ads for the whole game. Like that lady gaga abomination a few years ago.

Best stat: PGTOPG....Points Greater Than Opponent Per Game....this is not really a margin thing. This is something you learned playing nerf football in the yard as a kid. Kind of a fundamental.
