Iowa city tailgating

We got tickets and are attending the Cyhawk game this year. Any advice on best places to tailgate?
Depends on what you like. Best thing about tailgating Iowa games is all the different types of set ups. If you're into big open lots with tons of space I'd go Finkbine commuter lot. If you're into a smaller scene there are all kinds of yard parties in Melrose Heights to the west of the stadium along Melrose Ave. and the side streets. Fun stuff.

I never know where I am when I tailgate there. I remember one or 2 actually tailgate lots and the rest houses. It’s a fun time if you know the right people but be prepared for s*** talking drunk a-holes.

We’re probably going to try the Finkbine commuter lot. I tried to call to buy a pass in advance but you have to have tickets through UofI to buy the pass. Since ours are the Cyclone allotment they didnt let me buy a pass. Said we have to show up on gameday only. And it could be sold out pre-sale

That is not a terrible idea...if you are healthy and young. But it can be a hike if you have anyone with you who is older or has difficulty walking long distances. I am not suggesting it is not walkable...it certainly is...but if you have anyone that has difficulty walking I would think about that plan a bit harder.

Just heard the Hawkeye Commuter lot is a free one and has a free bus that drops off by stadium.

Its funny, we went to the Oklahoma game last year and they mostly all park around their basketball arena and have like a dozen commuter shuttles running people in to the stadium. We really are lucky we have the tailgating setup that we do.

Oklahoma pregame sucks for that size and history of a program.
Atleast Logies is open early.

I don't think tailgating in IC is bad per se, it's just so different from Ames.
I've had plenty of good times there. The worst part about it is after games trying to get out of town. It's obvious the stadium and area was built before knowing what traffic would be like.

If you don’t know anyone with a set up close to the stadium then I think Finkbine is probably your best choice.
