Any insiders know how he’s feeling? I saw he went on several OV’s last month and then tweeted that he’s postponing his decision.

This would be a huge get for us- I hope he comes to play with his brother. Nobody would take better care of him than Cyclone Nation.

He would be the best d-lineman we've gotten since McDonald.

Wasn't there a whole group of them that visited at the same time and he is the only one left that hasn't committed to the good guys?
I think so…I went onto his Twitter feed yesterday and he visited Washington, Oregon, Texas, and a couple others right after visiting us in June.

I thought we were a lock with his brother already here, our culture, and some of the great rush ends we’ve produced over the last few years, but maybe not. I think this is where the We Will collective comes in to play and we have to be competitive. Go @brentblum ! I hate to bring the discussion back this way, but for every Cyclone that can give, I hope everyone gives.

JP said We Will is to retain players not recruits.

I understand that. However, if we have the ability to show recruits what we will do for them once they do get here, I think that’s just as powerful.
I don't think you do. We are never going to be able to complete for the pay for pay players. If you pay one it could actually hurt recruiting because it makes you look bad to the ones you don't. Focusing on retaining players helps us keep players that are proven commodities.

FWIW, on 247 Nick Osen gave a 5/10 confidence prediction to Iowa State after Purchase's ISU official visit. But the Oregon guy on On3 gave a 75% confidence prediction to Oregon after his Oregon official.

No worries- we can disagree on what you believe I understand…

I’m not saying we are going to pay for players. I respectfully disagree with JP on it, but he’s the MAN and I support him and all that he does for our school- even if I disagree on a topic. I believe he knows better than an average fan like me as to what’s best for our football team, therefore, I am supporting the collective and we’re not paying players to come here.

My point is this- the better we can retain guys after they are here, which is what the collective is for, I think that puts us on a stronger footing with recruits. To be able to say to those kids, ‘we won’t pay you to come here, but look at all we’ll do for you once you are here’, is just as strong a statement in a recruiting trip.

The defeatism and idea that we can never compete is just not a mindset we should have and that’s where I disagree with you. We can compete- but it takes everybody. Hand-wringing and saying, ‘we’ll, we’re just Iowa State…’ isn’t going to get it done. Those who can, should give generously to the collective, to give us one more tool in our recruiters’ tool belt to win recruits like Blake.

I know the school won’t directly fund the collective, but I’m hopeful some of the bigger donors are encouraged to give to the collective instead of the school. Maybe a ‘we appreciate your gift, but have you considered sending it to the collective this year?’ kind of conversation…

If he comes for the coach and school, I’m all in. If he only comes because of some $$ thrown at him then pass. Whole thing is beyond ridiculous.
It is ridiculous- but it’s the world we’re in. If we want to be competitive, we have to do more to attract and retain players. The collective is to retain players and to show them what we can do for them once they’re here.

All fans who are able need to get on board with this- just think of it like everything else: costs have gone up and if you want to continue to enjoy a quality product like CMC is producing, you have to pay more for it. This is life and we need to get with it.
