Welcome to another edition of “On That Note,” CF’s weekly music series, co-hosted by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.

This week, we conclude our annual albums-by-decade series.

For part 3, post your favorite LPs released in 2002 and/or 2012. (Those years only, NOT the entire decade.)

Include 3 or 4 sound clips with each selection. In addition to the tracks, we encourage you to expound on why the album is meaningful, including personal history of your relationship with the record and its music.

Choices should focus on studio albums. Avoid greatest hits/live LPs/compilations. We’ll allow it, but it should be a definitive element of an artist’s body of work that isn’t otherwise available from studio output.

If someone posts an album on your list before you get to it, you still may reference it, but use different song samples.

If you’re more singles-oriented, you may substitute top singles from either of those years.

“Yankee Hotel Foxtrot”
Wilco

NOTE: Some discrepancy exists regarding official release date — initially, it was September 2001, but “officially” it’s considered April 2002. (For details related to all that, web-search as needed) … I’m counting it as ’02.

Limiting to 3 clips, in case others want to add ... I won't include opening track ... using a killer triplicate prior to finale.

Not sure if I bought anything in English in 2002, but did invest in several French CD"s.

Indochine - J'ai demandé à la lune (I asked the moon...if you still wanted me)

For 2012, all I have is Kendrick Lamar's debut, "good kid, m.A.A.d city'.

But I don't know any of the songs. All I know is "To Pimp a Butterfly" and "DAMN" are seriously good.

2012 is when AI and internet music services started killing a musicians product.

Shania Twain's Up album would be my choice from 2002. While there were a number of singles released from this disc, my favorite songs were not released in the U.S. The album had a red (pop) and green (country) disc in the package, then a blue (international pop) single version available outside the U.S. These were my three favorite tracks from the red version.

"I'm Jealous"

"Nah"

"Waiter! Bring Me Water!"

“Stereo”
Paul Westerberg
April 23, 2002

Packaged with limited-release “Mono” (under one-time alter-ego “Grandpa Boy”) … I’ll stick mostly with “Stereo,” but a couple from Mono are too good to ignore. Both are ragged/basement recording approach. Stereo leans more folky/contemplative/slow-tempo; Mono more rock-ish.

My vote for Westerberg solo song best fitted for The Replacements, but wasn't.
With classic PW wordsmithery: “Hurry up, they’ll teach you some patience fast”
