With the cost of gas being so high, I was wondering if people buy certain brands of gas (Caseys, BP, Kum and Go, Etc.) or just buy whatever is cheaper. I have heard some people complain that gas from certain places are bad or don't get as good mileage. I think since they all adhere to the same requirements, they are all pretty much the same, but wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

Casey's gas is garbage (2-3 miles less per gallon) but other than that I don't see much difference.
I had the same experience 10 years ago when I lived in Iowa. I suspected this and thought I would test it. I had a 40 mile commute each way everyday so I would alternate weeks of filling up with Casey's vs BP. I would consistently get 2-3 MPGs better with BP gas. Had a 1995 Saturn SL1 and would get 40 MPG with BP and 37-38 with Casey's.

That's why they are famous for pizza.

I have two gas trip meters. One I've literally never reset. 73,000 miles in and it has every mile on it. The other I reset every time I get gas.

I get gas at Casey's, Kwik Star, Farm and Fleet, a lot of places. The mileage I get is basically the same everywhere and could easily be explained by in town vs. highway driving.

Basically everyone in a given region pulls same product out of the same 2 or 3 pipeline terminals. But specific retailers may add their own additives when it is transported to their stations. I don't have a preference but their may be slight differences.

One time, years ago, my mechanic showed me a jar of Quicktrip Fuel and a jar of Casey's fuel. The QT looked like a beautiful dark golden amber beer. The Casey's looked like pond water.

I've tried to stick to the Top Tier gas brands whenever possible. That being said, I end up getting from HyVee a lot since it's very convenient for me.

For some reason it seems Kwik Star is no longer Top Tier. I used to go there for that.

I'd be lying if I said I bought gas somewhere specifically because of Top Tier, but I frequent Kwik Star and Costco gas and it was a nice bonus to learn some time ago that both were Top Tier.

Some quick Googling tells me that the reason Kwik Star isn't Top Tier anymore may be related to additive shortages. Here is a list of Top Tier gas brands...not a lot of places you can reliably find in Iowa on this list.

Kwik Trip/Star is no longer Top Tier rated. Don't think Casey's ever was.

Edit: guess i was a bit slow on the draw. carry on
