Gang Green Nation Review of Breece Hall

Hall, whose cousin is legendary former 49ers running back Roger Craig, was a four-star recruit out of high school after rushing for over 2,000 yards in each of his last two seasons.

I had no idea! Roger Craig went to Davenport Central high school, and actually attended one of my high school basketball games way back when (we were playing Central that night). It was surreal.

Now I need to know if Breece has any other connections to the QC.

Craig ran for something like 248 (maybe 256) yards and four TD’s against my high school (Muscatine) my senior year. Sorry I don’t remember better, it’s been a minute.

In the first half.

It was pretty boring but fair enough. The criticisms were pretty nit picky and the writer even acknowledged it. I think NFL people are just disenfranchised with the RB position in general and his final words were that if he stayed healthy his potential is limitless. Sort of inconsistent article.

I grew up as a Central foe and vividly remember some of my high school coaches talking about when we played them. Everybody knew he was getting the ball and couldn't stop him.

He didn't immediately take over after Montgomery.
You are correct. It wasn't immediate. In 2019, Breece had a pretty good game 1 against UNI (40-some yards). Then he sort of disappeared for a few games. Jirehl Brock even got a shot (game 3, Louisiana-Monroe, he got 40 yds also).

Then Breece broke out in game 6 against WV (132 yds) and didn't look back.
You can look at every game here (just click on the "date" of the game):

Basically.
The dude had almost 300 touches this last year. I don't know how much more work you want to put on a guy who already had over 300 touches the year before. And that is not counting the over 200 touches he had as a true freshman. It is also not counting any incompletions that might have come his way and he absorbed a hit in the process.

I'm talking about not getting the ball out in the flats to him in space etc. enough or getting him outside instead of handing off with a bad to marginal Oline.

While I think that we could have used him more in the passing game, to me, the key to that was having someone else take over a bigger portion of the rushing carries. For whatever reason, they did not trust Nwangwu or Brock to get more than spot duty or mop up time. I think that if they would have trusted Brock more, they could have split Breece out more and made better use of his speed and hands. But for whatever reason, they did not. It's not like he didn't have plenty of touches...I just think that you have to take something off his plate if you're going to use him more as a downfield receiving threat.

I LOL'd at that whole thing. The fact that a JETS fan can be critical of anyone's ability is simply laughable. I hate that Breece has to play for such a ****** team.

Things can change pretty quickly in the NFL though...as long as you have a front office that isn't doing stupid crap. By all accounts, they had a good draft. They have their QB, got a good WR in Wilson, some decent pieces on the OL. I think that they'll probably struggle this season, but there's a lot of young talent on the roster and they should get better. I actually like that they have Carter, who will take some of the load off of Breece early on.

Seems a few are trying to find issue where there might not be any.

Examples: The author said a lot of criticism was nit-picking. The author said the passing game usage was most likely scheme related.

I guess I thought it was a decent write up.

I understand people's concern with this but honestly I think Breece is one of the best running backs I've ever seen about avoiding contact. He didn't get hit as often as people think.
