According to assistant coaches, he was so consumed with public perception that he often read Kansas football message boards.

“Charlie would make a statement and after the meeting someone would say: ‘That was right on the message board,’” one former assistant coach said. “Or, ‘We’re doing this now because this is what No. 1 Jayhawks Fan said.’ That mentality definitely permeated the office.”

Coaches implementing message board chatter into their game plan is dumber.
Coaches implementing message board chatter into their game plan at KU for football is just fine however.

Yeah, implementing not so much. But definitely people keep track of what is said.

It makes sense. These coaches are as big of fans of the players/team as anyone. And given the nature of the job, it's completely natural they'd be curious to see what people are saying.

That's wild. I did read message boards as a high school player and I could see it as a college player, but as a coach? If I did, I'd have someone look at them and send me a high-level summary; not actually do it myself.
