We had a meeting with one of our insurance carriers and they are seeing building costs close to $300/square foot. Wasn't that long ago it was under $200. They just paid $494K to rebuild a home (fire) that was insured for about $300K (with guaranteed replacement cost.) **** be crazy.

Seems like there would be a huge variable to this. Depending on location, materials and finishes.

A house in the Metro with top of the line finishes, and higher labor costs I would think would be substantially different cost/square foot vs a house in NW Iowa with builder grade materials.

I live in austin, I don't think for 300 you would even get walks or windows for that.

Last fall we paid $12k for a 16x16 composite deck with metal railings and 8 foot stairs. Had a 2nd bid. for same deck that came back at $16k

$50,000 with concrete floor and barn level electrical, no plumbing, heat or air conditioning, insulation, drywall or ceiling/interior walls, and minimal windows. $30,000 if you can get by with dirt floor, candles, and your cell phone.

I'm replaing wood deck boards to composit (26 -16 foot) and (30 8 footers) rail and skirt. doing work myself, $7,800.

The builder that I work for in the DSM metro starts at around $300/sq ft. This is for high end everything. Most are less than this.

As someone who bought a home recently and looked at several new builds… buyer beware. Builders are skimping and cheapening everything they can to cut costs.

Talking with my insurance agent couple weeks ago, said we might want to considered raising our coverage.

Contractor left a really nice 12' pallet all winter in my yard. So I built a work bench out of it. Hit Home Depot for some materials to put in a couple sets of shelves to study it up. Five 2x4 studs and a 1/2" sheet of OSB. $100.00

1st-composite 28K wtf
2nd- treated wood w/ metal railing 10K
3rd-12x20 treated wood deck with wood railing 7K

Maybe it’s time to file a claim. You could have hail damage and not even know it and get a free roof.

They’re going up for everyone. There were two catastrophic storms in 2020.
