There are so many new shows it's hard to keep up. If we try a show and we're not invested in the first 2-3 episodes we're done and we move on. Give me your highly recommended shows you've been watching the past year or two.

Mine:

Somebody Somewhere (HBO Max) - this show is simply fantastic. Real people. Real problems. HILARIOUS humor.

The Tourist (HBO Max)

Tokyo Vice (HBO Max) - I hate Ansel Elgort but love me some Michael Mann. This is also based on a true story. Good ****.

Severance (HBO) - Mentioned in another thread.

Slow Horses (Apple TV) - Spy/Thriller/Comedy. Incredible cast. Loving this.

Abbott Elementary (NBC) - Snuck up on us. This show is HILARIOUS. Same vein as Parks and Rec and The Office. We laugh out loud OFTEN at this and we haven't been fans of network sitcoms in quite awhile.

Yellowjackets (Showtime) - Came out last fall. Fantastic.

Euphoria (HBO) - Speaks for itself. It's not for everyone. But it's brilliant. And terrifying.

Clarkson's Farm (Amazon Prime): Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear and Grand Tour fame owns a 1000 acre estate that was managed by a local farmer. In 2019 the farmer retired, and with nothing else to do the native Londoner with no farming experience decides to take over operations himself. I'm 4 episodes in and really enjoy it.

Winning Time (drama/comedy about Showtime Lakers) is fantastic so far on HBO. If you don’t like sports (we all do) it’s still good. If you like basketball history it’s phenomenal. Jerry West, Magic, Kareem, Jerry Buss, Pat Riley, Red Auerbach, Larry Bird soon, host of other basketball characters like Tarkanian etc…it’s probably my favorite show with new episodes right now. Not remotely for kids.

John C Reilly as Jerry Buss is making a play for a top 10 favorite character of any series all time for me, if he doesn’t win an Emmy for this I don’t know why they have them. It’s the perfect role for him.

Really, really, really not for everybody…..but…if you love the uncomfortable humor of Curb Your Enthusiasm…you might actually really like “Chad”. TBS show but S1 just went up on HBO. I was kind of shocked how hilarious I thought certain episodes were. Main character is intentionally unlikeable and some will hate that. I’m pretty sure this has been discussed on the board before because of the 40 year old woman playing a young boy, but forgetting about how you feel about that, this is funnier and smarter than vast majority of TV comedies.

Have you watched the documentary The Biggest Little Farm? I thought that was really interesting, and along the same lines.

Not to be a nitpicker but Abbott Elementary is on ABC. Wanted to be sure if anybody was interested they could find it - I also think it’s good to recognize the old-school broadcast networks when they actually have a good show.

We enjoy Mr. Mayor (which is on NBC) - Ted Danson, Holly Hunter, a good ensemble cast, and it’s from the same people behind 30 Rock. If you liked that kind of humor, you should like this show.

I watched this immediately after it was released. It's by far the best of the side projects from the trio.

Not new, but we're on the third season of "Bordertown", a Finnish crime series on Netflix. The hero is gifted and somewhere on the spectrum, using his talents to deduce who is guilty and why. Great show. Most of the Nordic Noir is outstanding, including "Chestnut Man", and "Trapped" (Iceland). Also enjoyed "Marcella" from the UK. European television is so much better than American schlock (I'm talking the dreadful "Mrs. Maisel"), there is just no comparison.

Even counting HBO? I realize Euphoria is an Israeli adaptation but the quality on HBO for 2+ decades now has to be the historic gold standard for serialized fiction on film.

For network tv (and a lot of Netflix content) I’d agree and the trend is for it to keep getting worse.
