Get your nominations in for the 2022 Iowa's Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin. This is the 20th year for the contest, which began with a whopping 90 nominees. Close to 6,000 were submitted last year. Nominations accepted through June 6 and ultimate champion and four other finalists named in October. Eligible restaurants must offer hand-breaded or battered pork tenderloins as a regular menu item and be open year-round with regular hours.
Have at it.

Reno's in Schley should get in here, but they might not qualify for regular hours. They're open in every month of the year, but not necessarily scheduled hours.

EDIT: just nominated them

Can someone explain how there is no repeat winners? Are they not eligible the next year? Also, If you make the top 5 are you no longer eligible? The list I just looked at seems like everyone who did good one year were no where to be found the next year. That seems kind of odd.

"15. The 1st place winning restaurant is ineligible from the competition for 5 years after winning the award. The 2nd place restaurant and others in the top 5 remain eligible."

The real goal here is to promote unknown gems around the state. If a winner is out for 5 years, it forces the award to move around the state and bring some notoriety to different places.

For example, a couple years ago the best burger was won by a place about a half hour from me that I'd never more than had a quick beer at. Went and tried the burger and it was great.

Guess I should take a ride over to Harlan to check out last year's winner.
I made it over to Victoria Station to try the 2021 winner. I wasn't impressed. Didn't like the breading or the garlic aioli and the pork itself was mushy.
The tenderloin I had at The Lucky Pig (2014 winner) was so much better.

Elm's Club in Creston was nominated in 2003 and that's it?

Them without a 1st or 2nd makes this contest a joke.

Working calves this week & saving nuts for a group that has a big annual mountain oyster fry. Has anyone had experience smoking nuts? Internet says brine & then smoke for a very good end result.

This could be a separate, but interesting, thread!

Main Street Bar & Grill in Massena is closest to me. If the weather is decent next weekend maybe I'll ride over and give it a try. Hopefully it's better than last years winner. I tried that this summer and wasn't impressed at all

VS fancies their tenderloin up quite a bit, but I didn't get a mushy center in mine. thoroughly enjoyed it.

For a straight-up tenderloin as we all know and love, Larsen's Pub, down the road in Elk Horn (2007 winner, 2021 runner-up) is where to go.

I also want to get over to Darrell's in Hamlin to try the 2003 (I think the first) winner. I went right past it on my way to VS as I was coming back from Ames
