Russ: Taunts like 'Westbrick' shaming family name

After his wife, Nina, posted on social media about the criticism and "death wishes" her family has received, Russell Westbrook spoke out about the harassment they've been subject to in his first season with the Lakers and vowed to defend his family name.

His wife has supposedly been receiving death threats on Twitter, if true I don't care how much he makes. That's garbage on any level. Is he overpaid now, sure. But the NBA brings in loads of money and the NBAPA has done a great job ensuring vets earn their share.
 
Russ's problem is that he got old and slow, and everyone realizes it except for him it seems. Nobody should be talking **** to his family, or to him personally, but shouting 'Westbrick" during a game while he's making $40m seems acceptable.

This is a real thing but he's upset about Westbrick? Shows his priorities and why he's as disliked as he is.
 
What did fans expect? He couldn't shoot prior to this year and was fading the past few years.

Lebron wanted to bring him in and it didn't work. Lebron put this team together and he wanted a bunch of old veterans to play with along with Anthony Davis who is basically made of glass.

Westbrook is just a scapegoat for an bad team that is old.

It has nothing to do with him. He even said that it was in response to his son being proud of his last name.

I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have been a big deal even then. But people are sending nasty and threatening messages to his wife. This was just an example he was using.

I agree threats are uncalled for and those people are lunatics.

But his son can still be proud of his name and should be. Good teaching moment that it doesn’t matter what people think or say.

Unfortunately, it comes with the territory of being famous and in the spotlight. The payoff is the millions upon millions of dollars.

I think everyone agrees the death threats are awful, but the name thing is hilarious and he cannot complain about that at all.

But the name thing was directly as a result of all of the **** people talked to his wife on social media.

Saying oh it’s awful, but let’s really focus on a consequence of these actions so we can ignore the impact on innocent people and children is exactly why he said what he said.
