I wanted to create this thread as I think it is desperately needed right now. Part of the problem right now I think is just in what the expectations are.

I’m going to try and cover the potential answers as best I can. Try and pick your best answer with the ones provided.

if there is something dramatically wrong with one of the options let me know and I can try and better reflect it in the options.

It should be making the Big Dance every single year. Which basically means finishing top half of the Big 12 or going on a run at the conference tourney.
Seeding and tournament success will play itself out, but I expect to make the tourney every year.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Just make it to the tournament every year.

my expectation is that we need 3 or 4 more threads on cf b/c without that what is life?

this thread is never needed. expectations for iowa state are argued about every day in every thread.

  • develop an offensive or defensive identity. I don’t believe ISU has that currently
  • Make Ncaa tournament 8 of 10 year stretches
  • Make NIT other 2
  • Don’t lose at home to schools like FAMU and Milwaukee
  • Recruit transfers
  • Top 30 recruiting classes
  • Limit roster turnover

name me a non elite program that does this.

If this is truly your expectation, you are clueless and your opinion is worthless.

Historically it hasn’t taken a top half finish to make the dance. 7th place usually gets you in (maybe not this year).

Over a 10 year period:

Make the NCAA tournament more often than not (7/8-10)

Stay out of the Wednesday round of the Big 12 tournament (7-10)

Win the Big 12 tournament 2-3 times and have a team that can challenge for the regular season title 1-2 times.

Based on recent success I think that’s realistic without being too pie-in-the-sky

I will never understand responses like this. It's a message board. It's a forum for people to have a discussion. Who the **** cares if he starts a thread dedicated to a topic that is mentioned in other threads. You act like there has to be some constructive purpose to every thread-- like it should have to go through some merit based analysis before it's put out for public consumption.

What are you out? Just don't participate if you don't like the topic...

So by your expectations only Kansas and Iowa state have been successful since they are the only ones who’ve won a tournament in the last 8 years??

I think it is clear many of you have expectations that very few programs can meet.

I’d encourage you to take the expectations you list and see how many programs meet them. I think you’ll be surprised.

Of course not. I think our fan support in KC gives us an advantage that few other schools in the conference other than KU have.

We've managed to win 4 the past decade. I think we’re capable of winning 2 in any given decade (revert to the mean). Is that unreasonable?

Also the reason is it’s a topic that’s been discussed but people seem to talk past it when revaluations performance. If we can’t see a consensus it’s hard to have the other discussions.

  • Agree
Reactions: CoKane

What interesting is the last 10 years have made me realize you don't have to be some kind of juggernaut team to make the tournament. You really just have to be average. It makes it all the more harrowing to think about that long tournament drought we had in the Morgan/McDermott days.
