ISU MBB ranked 9th in ESPN Preseason BPI

I thought that was going to be ninth in the Big 12, kind of like Bart Torvik projections...

That model does not like us because it keeps defensive efficiency similar between years (and ours was okay but not great last year) and it dislikes that Bolton and Nixon were low-efficiency chuckers at Penn State and Colorado State, respectively, and their model projects they will continue to be low-efficiency chuckers and hold back our offense now in Ames. I hope that does not happen, that is a fair projection of something that might hold us back and probably be frustrating to all of us throughout the season. Imagine having two of "bad THT" out there.

I should probably point out that Abdel Nader was a low efficiency chucker at Northern Illinois.

In '14-15 (which is probably the most apt comparison), Nader played ~40% of available minutes. I'm sure we're asking Bolton and Nixon to play more than that. Also, Hoiberg employed (and mostly enforced) a Morey-like no midrange philosophy, which forced Nader to take naturally higher percentage 2pt shots. Prohm seems totally fine with midrange shots. In Nader's years, Naz, Hogue ('14-15), Thomas ('15-16), Niang, and Morris were also good enough from 3 to help space the floor for a slasher like Nader.

So he stopped being an inefficient chucker.

Thanks for the verification.

Yeah, the evolution that Nader underwent is what you hoped for.

Nader was never "the man" on offense, though. He always had Morris, Niang, and a ton of good shooters around him to carry the burden and space the floor.

Bolton and Nixon, especially Bolton, are going to need to score.

Bolton probably needs to lead us in scoring (with decent efficiency) for us to be successful. Good chuckers like Shayok are hard to find, but we need another one.

I think this might be the first time I can ever remember that we are overrated by the national media. I think we have a long ways to go, and most projections have us middle of the pack and in the tourney. I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat!
