What does Simeon Carter have to do to find minutes?

Which of these front court players step up and grab playing time will be the biggest question mark going into this season IMO.

From those Prohm quotes, it appears Carter has quite a bit of work to do this offseason not only on the court, but in the weightroom and classroom as well. How much of that talk is just trying to light a fire under Carter, who knows, but from watching him play last year, it did appear he had a lot of work to do to see any significant minutes.

Holden is the biggest "known" quantity we have since he's played several years of high level college ball already and did a pretty good job. But he's going to need help. Whether that is from Lard, Young, Carter, or maybe even Bowie playing the 5 at times, who knows? It will be interesting to see who steps up.

Didn't sound like a glowing endorsement from Prohm, so he's probably trying to send a message. Carter seems like a great kid, but if he gets passed up by Lard and Young this year, he will likely not work out here. This is a make or break year for him.

He definitely seems to have great length. I wonder what his wingspan is? Just needs to get stronger, and I could see him at least playing a role of a rebounder and rim protector.

Reading between the lines there the message I got is laziness, that wasn't a coach that was overly proud of a player's work ethic.

Hopefully he can beef up and contribute. He doesn't need to score, just needs to defend, rebound, and be tough - hopefully he gets there.

That was exactly my thoughts as well. Prohm seemed to indicate that he didn't have the work ethic needed on the court, in the weightroom, or in the classroom. It came across as pretty harsh, but I like it. If he isn't putting in the work that's needed, then the coach needs to try to light a fire under him IMO.

He looked totally lost out there last year. Hopefully a full year in the program and a summer of working out with the team will help him figure out our schemes and where to be.

He seems to have a similar build to Holden, just needs to bulk up a bit. That being said I don't see his playing time increasing much this year.

He has the physical tools but like Prohm said he needs to put the work in to get better. I think Prohm is a good motivator so who knows what will happen with Carter next year. If they didn't think he could become something I think it would be Ernst here instead of him. Can't read too much into the comments.

That's what I thought, too. If they didn't see potential in his game then I think they would have let him know this offseason. Prohm's comments just drive home the message that it's now or never for Carter at ISU. There's an opportunity there if he's willing to set aside his ego and find ways to make an impact other than scoring. More offensive firepower is not what the 2016-2017 team needs right now.

Was Carter a Prohm recruit? Or a Hoiberg recruit?

Either way, I hope he steps up this summer. He seems like a good kid. Looking forward to Cap City League where we can see him for extended minutes.
