Allen (TX) HS builds $60 million football stadium

Capacity of 18,000 fans, of which north of 8,000 are season ticket holders, and bosts two separate training areas including an 84 yard long weight room.

Allen is a 5A school with total enrollment of 5,400 students. They regularly put 3-4 players into D1 football programs, including our very own Jeremy Reeves.

This is big time high school football gentlemen.

That is amazing. Wife and I lived in Plano in early 80's. I remember the population of Allen around 10k, but they were throwing up all these housing developments in Frisco and Allen. We shook our heads and said that was way too far out; no one would want to live that far out. Now I see Allen in over 80k!
 
When I first glanced at the picture, I thought it was a picture of TCU's stadium taken about half way through construction. That weight room looks amazing, too!
 
I think with the community support in IA, if there were any schools with that big of enrollment, they would support something like this.
Valley has 2-3 (or more) D1 players each year. What does their stadium seat? 9k? 10?
Ankeny would have the potential to get closest to this with their growth, but with the split, it won't happen

Ok. Other school districts are definitely having issues, but how is Allen handling everything else other than football? From what i remember last time this came up, they were a fairly well-to-do district that was performing above average academically. If they can afford it, why not?
 
That looks like it would hold way more than 18,000 people.
 
Didn't this report come out like 5 years ago? Unless it was a different $60M HS Texas football stadium-- not unlikely...

Edit. The plans came out 5y ago. nm

No, this is how America is supposed to work. Not a large government telling what we can and can't have, but a small government providing their communities what they want. If the median household income is accurate and the rest of the school is properly funded I have absolutely no problem with this happening.

I have a problem with a community that values building a $60MM football stadium and passes a bond to do it. Is this what's important?

How do you know they aren't also funding 'what's important'? The bond issue for their stadium also funded a multi-million dollar performing arts facility. This is also a community that has a band that numbers 800 kids.
