I haven't heard too much about this until I drove by the area last weekend. Sounds like a Somerset meets West Glen type of thing, mixed with schools, police, etc. Didn't know if it was ever talked about much on Cyclone Fanatic.

I thought they were going to Waukee? I prefer this location to Waukee. I've been to their Coralville location and it was a decent place.

I was really hoping for waukee. Live 1 mile from their projected location

A little off-subject, my Brother-in-law and I hit up Firetrucker and Uptown Garage a few weekends ago. I couldn't help but remember myself thinking "huh, Ankeny has a downtown after all".
I've been impressed by the selection at Uptown. Firetrucker has an awesome location but the beer, even before the owner died, was just average. Now I feel bad about criticizing a dead mans beer brewing ability.....I did like Mole Grail.

They even had a site announced out there. I think they looked at the east village too before ultimately landing on Ankeny

I wish they tried more new things. They've got good atmosphere but the lineup is rather meh (I do enjoy their oatmeal stout this time of year though). I go over to reclaimed rails more than I go to firetrucker despite living in Ankeny because Rails is always bringing out something new to try.

Firetrucker did have a citrus IPA that I liked (and i'm not much of an IPA fan, tbh). Uptown, on the other hand, was my first experience with oreo speedwagon. There will forever be a special place in my heart for that beer.

What also caught my attention were two different breweries a few blocks apart with completely opposite volumes of patrons. Uptown blew Firetrucker out of the water with that one.

Uptown isn't really a brewery, are they?

Thought they just have a bunch of iowa beers.

Yes, Oreo Speedwagon and their PB porter are both excellent.

I think Uptown intends to or is starting to brew their own beer, but when they first opened, they were definitely more of a taproom.
