Williams Blog: Final look at the Hawkeyes

Exactly what I've been thinking. Even Chris Williams and others like him don't talk as if they have any confidence in our team. How many times do we have to beat EIU before our fans start to wave the flag in the face of the EIU fans? EIU is never as good as their fans think they are! ISU is...

5 most annoying things about Hawkeye fans

Seriously, most Iowa fans either did not attend college or they live in Illinois. More Iowans graduate from the Iowa State University than any other college in Iowa. By the way, it is THE Iowa State University. If you're going to say the Univ. of Iowa or the University of Northern Iowa, then use...

    Jake Sullivan on 1700

1st - Jake didn't have as much influence on Barnes as everybody seems to think. He never could have brought him to ISU. 2nd - He is more interested in himself than ISU. He's not the supporter that you might think. 3rd - He was right about McDermott. I don't remember his comments being...

Billy Gillispe calls Gary Thompson...two others called him as well

Absolutely right. Johnny Orr drank a little in his day. Just imagine if we had ruled him out of consideration because of it.

    A Must Read

To the point of Matt bringing this issue forward –Understand that KXNO is built on creating/stoking controversy. They benefit from emotional response from fans. Probably even more so when the topic is one that gets you defensive about the program you love. My advice is to ignore KXNO and their...

uhhh...wow...i see the 'recuiting experts' here were dead on again

This IS the reason. Doug would be a nice player for any of the D1 schools in Iowa. Plus, he's still young. He could keep developing before he gets to college. It has to have occurred to Greg that he may not be around in a few years.

Poor start to season for Minnesota WBB

That's unfortunate for Kionna Kellogg. Maybe she can help turn things around. I'll probably get some criticism because she didn't commit to ISU, but I still wish her well. Besides, maybe Shaya will come our way.

    Creighton Over UI

Heard a rumor recently that Creighton had a scrimmage with Iowa. Apparently, they smoked Iowa? Anybody else hear this? Looks like Creighton is picked to win their conference, but I thought Iowa was looking a little better the past couple of years. Should be interesting in the rivalry game.

Harrison Barnes Jerseys in Ames Stores

Don't how much of a tradition it was, but there are no current players on the roster wearing #40.

Harrison Barnes Jerseys in Ames Stores

I've seen Barnes' Ames High jersey in at least one Ames store (Sports Page). Has anybody seen t-shirts/jerseys for #40 Iowa State? You would think some enterprising student or local company would print up Iowa State #40 t-shirts at least - to be worn at the next ISU game that Barnes attends...

When is to early to start recruiting kids?

My kids have been to many basketball camps (Mike Born, Future Stars, ISU mens, etc.). The camp run by the women's program at ISU is excellent, maybe the best in Iowa. It's a day camp (no overnight). I think Jodi Steyer runs it. The kids actually learn/practice fundamentals rather than just...

When is to early to start recruiting kids?

You can generally tell pretty early which kids have standout ability. You can't tell as much about long-term desire or drive. If I remember correctly, recruiting starts at about 8th grade. Also, girls don't tend to grow much after puberty, while boys can still grow a little after that time.

    Barnes to Make Early Decision

You make a lot of sense. Make the announcement to attend ISU before your senior season in high school and you have practically the entire state behind you as you make your run at another state championship. If you were going to another school, you'd wait until after the season were over.

    Was just at Hawkeyenation.com...

Believe me, I was there. This message is meant to water-down the true nature of EIU fans and the Big 10 in general. This guy probably wants to start the idea that ISU fans are the ones that engage in this behavior. With the thinking that nobody would remember 1981. I was also at the first game...

Big Name Schools in Ames for Barnes

Martin Brothers lists Doug McDermott at 6'5". He's on their 16U team.
