Retired Head Basketball Coach Tom Penders on Ollie, Hoiberg

You can see the building blocks of Ollie's system and its similarities to Hoibergs. Screen action based with free form options, spread floor with shooters/slashers. He's recruiting the same player over and over again. Hamliton/Purvis/Cassell/Jackson/Ali it's all the same guy. Ollie hasn't...

Retired Head Basketball Coach Tom Penders on Ollie, Hoiberg

Hello Clone Friends, Thought you might be interested to hear that former head basketball coach Tom Penders said on the Tim Brando show that Ollie and Hoiberg were going to revolutionize college basketball in the way the spread offense changed college football. Said that even hall of fame...

Napier is going to end his career...

I also think that Napier is exaggerating the "starving" storyline to help advocate for pay for play. I don't think it was coincidental he called UConn the "hungry huskies." He wants people talking about it. It was calculated and brilliant.

Napier is going to end his career...

The APR ban was an ex post facto double jeopardy penalization of a period of years that preceded any players on the current team for failing to meet a standard which has nothing to do with academic accountability. It WAS an injustice, and a farce which is par for the NCAA course.

    Congratulations Cyclones

This looks like the best place for me to say congrats on a great season ISU fans. Sky is the limit with The Mayor, it will only get better from here. Really enjoyed watching your boys lace em up this year. Take care.

    ISU vs UConn Preview

Buffalo is a 7 hour drive from the center of CT. New York is a two hour drive with mass transit. MSG is a symbolic icon of the conference that was dissolved with realignment. It's a church. It's as much of a draw for UConn fans as being in the sweet 16. The fact that it's a sweet 16 game...

What kind of fan base are we?

I voted hipster PBR. You've been around forever, and nobody really even considered you until very recently. Passing Fad. :v_SPIN:

    SMU beat UConn twice

Was I? Read it again. The OP asked what type of team has had success against uconn, my answer was that it was grind defenses, low possessions, big front courts. I cited Memphis because they were defensively the lightest of the "big 5" in the AAC this year. Their success was due to masking...

    SMU beat UConn twice

Without data to ground our comparisons, all we have is conflicting biased perspectives. If you don't want to consider the info, feel free to ignore it. Some reading here might find that interesting.

You have very similar defensive profiles on kenpom.

    SMU beat UConn twice

The teams that have given UConn the most problems this year are defensive oriented teams that have beat us at our own game. They are teams that play slow but have size in the frontcourt. SMU x2, Stanford and Cinci fit that description. The houston loss was kind of lightening in a bottle on...

    SMU beat UConn twice

When he retired in 2010, several NBA teams wanted him as an assistant coach or in the front office. It made sense: God created a leader in Kevin Ollie, and playing under four Hall of Fame coaches -- Calhoun, Brown, Chuck Daly and Don Nelson -- gave him, as Calhoun says, a "Ph.D. in basketball."...
