    Residential Solar Panels

My understanding is the programming and and registering of the inverters needs to be done by someone authorized by the inverter manufacturer. I set all of my inverters, sent their exact location on my roof layout to my supplier who then registered them on their online portal. The funny part...

    Residential Solar Panels

All panels will lose some efficiency as they age. The degradation varies but most are rated to retain 80% efficiency for 20-25 years.

    Residential Solar Panels

I don’t believe it to be difficult but you will need some basic construction knowledge and comfort with electrical. I spent 36 hours of actual time to install and yes I did electrical myself. The majority of the solar connections are plug and play. The rest requires some basic electrical...

    Residential Solar Panels

Federal rebates just went back to 30% of costs. No State of Iowa rebates. Power companies will likely vary in what they offer so you may want to check with your power provider. Most offer some type of installation credit and some will offer a buyback of power you sell back to them up to a...

Mine was a self installed system. I went with Solar Wholesale out of Utah for the design/engineering/materials.

    Residential Solar Panels

I’ll shoot you a PM. The roofing part will be simple for you. Premade flashing, lag bolts, aluminum snap in place rail. Even the electrical part down to the panel isn’t bad. The inverters are plug and play. It’s very simple. If you connect everything in the right order there’s no...

    Residential Solar Panels

Ames Electric Services. I get credit for roughly 60% of what I sell to the grid (it’s a bit more complicated math but ends up around that number). This is my first month producing so I haven’t seen the bill yet but my understanding is I get a credit up to the minimum billing amount of like $7...

    Residential Solar Panels

That would really depend upon your usage to know what’s too much. You need to have a pretty large usage to need 19 kw. I was sized by contractors for 7.5 kw system. I chose to install a 10.7 kw system just maximizing my roof line. I didn’t experience any push back from my utility from my...

    Residential Solar Panels

Most residential panels will be rated around 350-375 watts DC. Those panels are roughly 3.5’ x 6’. Depending upon the type of inverter you are usually seeing around 300-320 watts AC to your house. 60 panels would give you around 19 kw of max output. That’s a LOT. Probably over twice what...

    Residential Solar Panels

I just recently finished a self install of residential solar. Got a few quotes for contractor install but wasn’t pleased with the cost nor high pressure sales pitch from some of them. Ended up finding a company that would quote me the design, engineering, and all materials (including some of...

Most dropped courses at ISU this semester

Would he have been there in ‘99? I think I may have had him for 165 if I’m thinking of the same guy. Talking about vectors and always like what’s the vector to get to the keg of beer. What change in vector to get you some smokes…

    Fly-fishing in Iowa

I’ll second Tenkara and the Orvis Clearwater combo. A bit of money but a lot of fun. I’m available for PM if needed as well. lots of trout info on the Iowa DNRs website or county specific trout maps for Clayton, Winneshiek, Fayette, and Appanoose Counties. Winnesheik example...

Anyone having a suggestion for walleye fishing in Iowa or MN?

Just got back from BWCA on Sunday. Cold weather kept the bugs away but also made the walleyes difficult to find and catch. Didn’t have much luck in and around Fourtown Lake. Smallmouth was good as was the Northern Pike. Caught an 18” Northern on my fly rod. That was a fun fight!
