I've never liked Alford but thought he usually behaves with a little class till today. Got in my pickup earlier this afternoon and the radio was on WHO. Anyway, it's at the end of the Iowa -- Illinois game and Alford is evidently talking to the crowd honoring the seniors and he starts talking about Mike Henderson and Adam Haluska.

He says, "I want to talk about two guys who both made mistakes but then got it right the second time after they both first signed with Iowa State." Of course the a-holes at Carver-Hawkeye went wild. I snapped the radio off before I could hurl.

What an uncalled for cheap shot! I've always thought there was a little underhanded ongoing recruitment of both players by Alford. Maybe nothing illegal by NCAA rules but something shady nonetheless. I hope Alex Thompson and the rest of the team can kick his butt next year.

As much as I hate Alford, if taking cheap shots at ISU to keep the idiots happy in Hawkeye country so he keeps his job, he can keep it up.

In the meantime, we will be kicking thier as* up and down the court for seasons to come while alford coaches them to another NIT.

Very un classy....I didn't know Henderson committed here at one point.

Did you hate it when McDermott took the ISU job and said he did "because it's too much fun beating the hawks"? Is that not classy. There's plenty of reasons not to like Alford, but sometimes people are real ticky-tack about what coaches say to boosters.

Flame away.

I guess McDermott is classless for his joking comment he made about Iowa in his first press conference at Hilton? It's all in good fun and both fan bases ate it up with a spoon.

Edit: You beat me to it Joe.

To Joe and Drive, I have to agree. That's just part of the rivalry between ISU and EIU. I would say both sides give a bit of trash to the others. All in the spirit of pumping up your side.

I think Alford not be so classy started before the game was even over, not taking the Seniors out of the game to a standing ovation was pretty dum! Heck Haluska even fouled to stop the clock with five seconds to go, and looked over at the bench to see if they were going to replace him, and Alford left him in. Typical Alford !

I don't see any problem with it...I actually found it kind of funny-a rare witty comment from a guy that usually has no personality.

Yeah his two best scorers were Iowa State Recruits. Says a lot about his recruiting ability and swooping in when we were at our weakest.

Hey the records speaks for itself. I think Iowa has won 1 NCAA tourney games in his 8 years at Iowa. ISU's won like 3 or 4 in the same time with 3 different coaches.

He's got to say something to get the attention away from what people should be looking at. I hope Iowa hangs onto Steve O for a long time...

I like how people say he's lead Iowa to 6 straight postseason berths. That sounds good when you don't consider the circumstances. Your stat explains so much more.

I read the title of this thread and said "DUH!"

Even Hawkeye fans hate Alford.

It is the same as 5 bowls in 6 years, they were low level bowls (NIT), but it gives the illusion of progress.

I knew that comment was coming! Okay perhaps there are some interesting parallels. However Steve certainly isn't as effective at it as Dan was. Wonder if Iowa will let him stick around as long?

Nice story by the way about Bobby Knight that you made on the other thread. I could just picture that going on.

Should have kept listening on the radio for when Adam started to talk. His first comment was that the best thing that ever came from ISU was him. I just started to laugh.

I am sorry but I was at the game working one of the concession stands for Lions and he did say it. Another ISU fan was working with and we both remarked about what he said

Typical Ungrateful Alford we give him our rejects and he bites the hand that feeds him. Haluska's just mad because his boy Larry E got Canned:rolleyes5cz: :angry6wn:

that sucks. every senior deserves that...even if their name IS adam haluska

i have a feeling it wont be alfords as* were kicking for years to come. maybe the next couple, but if we kick it more than 3 times in a row...he's gone. despite what they might try to convince us of, we all know they look to our game just as much as we do.
