Iowa juco recruit

Righty-o. Point is, he still averaged 8.3 and 6. And I've read a few places that Archie played most of this year injured. If he played healthy, he'd have better stats too.

I'm not **** talking. I'm making a point that once again, players average similar stats in a similar league, yet somehow one is significantly better than the other. Even if they were both injured.

I'm sure Dendy will be solid at ISU. In fact, I hope he is. Just as I'm sure Archie will be a good player at Iowa. Both guys add what both teams need the most. I'm just saying, don't knock one guy and then turn around and praise another guy with similar stats.

the point is that Dendy did it in his first year at that level. Archie in his second year.

And my point is, both averaged similar stats under similar circumstances, yet one was blasted while the other was praised. Again, both players add a lot to both teams, and should be solid contributors at their respective schools.

That could be. Who knows. If he wasn't a player, I don't think he's very qualified to decide how talented the players are, and if Lick is a good/bad coach.

I've got to agree with SouthernHawk. I think it is likely that the difference in impact Dendy and Archie will have on their respective programs will be marginal. Both are coming in to add defense, rebounding, general athleticism. For I-State's sake, I hope we do not need him to do more than a few put backs, some O-rebounds, and a couple blocks a game. Think a Doug Thomas/Damion Staple type- anything more I will be pleasantly surprised.
 
No way to make a coparison between the two until they play at the
Division 1 level. Any comparisons at this point is pure speculation.

Oh God, if Archie turned into a Doug Thomas type of player, I would be stoked. Thomas was the only 6th man on a Hawkeye roster that I can remember who amped the crowd up in such a way.

Yeah, maybe Staple is a better comparison until proven otherwise. A guy whose does his job, isn't a liability, and you don't notice until he is gone. For ISU if Lendy is replacing Mann, it is an upgrade. If he is replacing Brackins, he is just a more athletic body to spread the suckdom around. Question is, who is Archie replacing, Tate? Or is it hopeful a Cougill/Archie combo will do that, similar to a JVB, Hamilton, Lendy, Pomlee would be needed to "replace" Brackins?

I'm assuming he'd it'd be a Archie/Cougill rotation to give Cole some minutes. I'd think Archie would come in over Cougill, at least right off the bat. Both players add some much needed inside depth.
 
So Cole moves into Tate's role (like a pre-injury Cole), and Archie/Cougill up to Cole's old role? In Lick's offense you really only need two true bangers, instead of 3-4. The other big needs to just be able to shoot, pass, and be somewhat athletic? IS that right? Seems like JVB would have been a perfect fit, wonder why Lick passed.

It seems strange to me that someone involved with the program would say something like this. I know for a fact that they preach the "Butler way" but I don't think there is anything wrong with that. The Butler way is all about controlling the tempo of games and minimizing turnovers that lead to easy pts; that's it. It's not like they came up with some sophisticated new way to approach the game, they are just trying to perfect a style of game that has been used for a hundred years. Obviously talent is important and athletic players are a must in the Big Ten, but I think most importantly they want smart players. Guys who understand their roles and who don't force things (Tony Freeman). Tony Freeman would have helped out with the athleticism part, but he insisted on forcing things when they weren't there.

There is a solid foundation for Lickliter's system in Gatens, Kelly, Cole, maybe Peterson, maybe Fuller and probably Tucker. If they could just add one scoring big man to go along with Cole who is a good defender and a good rebounder, I think they would be pretty successful next year.

As it is, they lost a whole heap of games by less than 10 pts to a lot of teams that played in the post season (a couple are still playing). They aren't as far away from churning out a winning season as many would like to believe. I know there aren't moral victories but I like the way they finished this season (other than the Big Ten tourney)
 
All Iowa fans should hope and pray that Palmer gets his act together. He could be the scoring big man that Iowa needs; he just needs to work on his defense. He could average 15 pts a game next year if he can learn not to be a complete liability on the defensive end of the floor.
