Harrison Barnes Interview

It's threads like these that make me realize that maybe our fanbase isn't as special as I thought. Don't get me wrong... there are a good number of people in this thread that I respect in their attitude toward things. And I cling to the hope that all of the positive fans just gave up reading these threads a long time ago. But reading through this, we seem to be the two faced fans that every other school has too. "We really want you HB" -> quote from HB that makes it sound like he's prolly not gonna come to ISU -> "We don't need you and don't even want you anymore HB"

If I were HB and truly hadn't made a decision yet, and saw how fans changed their attitude toward me like this. I would be announcing that I was going to Duke right now. Who wants to play for people like this? Yeah, they're probably just the same at Duke. But I used to think our fans were what separated ISU from the rest of the country.

(Again, I'm not trying to single out everyone in this thread, as there are a good number that seem to share my opinion here. But just the sheer volume of these types of threads in the last year... Hilton Magic didn't die... just the Amazing Cyclone Fanbase)

Edit: I apologize if anybody feels that my post is directed at them. But this is the way I feel. I think we need to stop putting words in his mouth. Yeah, it's looks like he's not coming here. You can talk abou that... but don't say he's not coming here when he never said that and he never said he's going anywhere else. And I think it's childish to act like we're better than him now. Yeah, we ALL wanted him as far as I know. But there's no reason to hate the guy if he chooses elsewhere.

spot on.

FWIW- HB's mother apparently was at Foot Locker a few weeks back and asked if they had anything in DUKE blue...then proceeded to fumble around and act like she didnt say it...

That would make some sense if it was before they flew out to Durham...

FWIW, the Foot Locker in the Ames Mall doesn't, or I at least don't think it does, since I was in there yesterday :biglaugh:

What is wrong with my post? Am I supposed to care for everybody, no matter what they choose, and especially if they burn those who have given so much to them? How many ISU games has he gotten to go to? Who has paid his mother's salary all these years? What university paid for his father's education?

Stay classy yourself. Sorry if I happen to be a Cyclone fan and could care less for players that can't see how special of a place ISU is and how great the fans are. My bad.

I'm laughing at you.

Right, because we know every Iowa State fan has posted here on this subject.:jimlad:

I don't mean to be an ***, but I think you'd be surprised how small of a percentage that CF actually represents to the fan base. From my personal experience, knowing the ISU fans that I know, my assumption is it's pretty small. Just in my group that are fans. My wife, My parents, both huge supporters that donate as well and never went to school here. My brother, his wife, two of my roomates from college, my neighbors (husband ISU grad, wife still a fan), and me. Of all of them, I'm the only one that visits these boards. So, in my poll, that's what, about 10% of fans that visit here?

I'm not trying to Bash CF and for all I know, it could be 90% of fans that actually visit here and chat, but I doubt it. I guess what gets me and got me riled up about this post, is how the fans somehow get bashed on again. With all the crap we put up with year after year, day after day, I'd say we deserve a little venting room. That's what message boards are for. I am sick and tired of the fans though, somehow being the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong with ISU athletics. We don't cheer enough, we are loud enough, we only put 40,000 people in the stands for a team that went 2-10 or 10,000 for a team that can't win the majority of their confernce games in Hilton anymore.

I know this isn't really what you meant by this, but it sparked me and I apologize for that. It's not the fans fault though. If the fans here had anything to do with it, ISU would be in the BCS and the NCAA final four every year. If HB doesn't want to come here, believe me, it has nothing to do with the fans.

We can rename the school the Barnesstormers if he comes to Ames to punch his NBA ticket.

True.

No apology needed. Great post.

Unless he gets a 4.0 GPA and takes advantage of every learning opportunity at Duke, then going to the number 1 business school is not much different then going to a good business school from a "learning" perspective. It may help to get a job but I think it's clear he's NBA bound so I don't think "school recognition" is a valid claim that he needs to be concerned about on his resume.

I hope people didn't take my HB post the wrong way. I really like the guy and he is an impressive young man. It would be great if he chose the good guys and decided to become a Cyclone, much like Hoiberg, one of my all-time favorites. If he chooses someplace else, my point is that I am not going to follow or cheer for him any more than I cheered for AT when he was a Hawkeye. It just goes with the territory.

I don't mean we have a bad fan base, I'm just stepping down from my pedistal when talking about our fanbase. I no longer feel that "We're better fans" than other schools have. We're simply humans just like them, no better, no worse.

How many schools averaged 12,000 fans for men's basketball after 3 years of bad ball?

How many schools averaged over 40,000 fans for a 2-10 football team?

We either have good fans or stupid fans. You choose.

Harrison pretty much says he isnt coming to ISU during his interview on kcci...when asked what would get him to go to ISU he stutters and says if they had the number 1 business school and a really good team

The best undergrad business school is Penn.

The best graduate business school is Harvard.

Either Harrison isn't as smart as he thinks or he's fooling a lot of people, including dook and Kryzdakl;gfnasdklf.

Either way, who cares.

Personally, I find the two quite different and I (again, this is just me here) will cheer for HB and follow his career with interest as long as he doesn't go to a team we play against or are rivals with. If he went to Iowa, I would be obligated to hate him with a firey passion, or Kansas I would have to hate him for however many years he's with them. I dislike Duke as much as the next guy, but I can't fault him for wanting to play for a tradition like that...he'll get lots of tv time and NBA scout time, too.

That I can live with. I'll still follow him but mostly because of the Ames connection, but I wouldn't expect everyone to.
