Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

I'm a pretty vocal CC supporter on here, but this is the once piece of it that kills me. You of course see the viral logo threes, of which there's maybe 1 or 2 a game. But so much of her success lies in the way she's officiated. It's stuff like this. It's attacking the rim and jumping into people to initiate contact.

And to be clear, I don't blame her one bit. Working refs is part of the game and it's obviously working for her. But if there's one part of the CC saga I can't stand is watching her get babied by refs, and then watching their fanbase try and complain about her not getting calls, of all things. She's a great player, who undeniably gets a very, very favorable whistle.
She drew 7 of the 18 fouls called in IU. Three of the other nine that played drew fouls on IU.

So Morgan freeman chicken wings when he plays basketball. How the heck did @Cydkar know that?
Saw him eating them courtside at an Ole Miss game.

Was also working the officials like CC.

Meh, she's averaging <7 FTs a game, not all that crazy. Less than JuJu and several other Gs, and way less than Reese.

Alot of that could have to do with her choosing to primarily operate 20+ feet from the basket. JuJu is averaging 16.7 2 point field goal attempts per game (which, by the way, is crazy). Angel Reese is averaging 12.2. Caitlin averages just over 9.

She gets a different whistle than everyone else on the floor. There's just no denying that. She's far from the first star to get favorable treatment. She's far form the first star to work officials to get calls. I really don't blame her for any of it. But she's totally officiated differently than others.

well gilbert and lipsey sure give it a shot!

And I’ve been critical of Lipsey for that on these boards. I don’t know that I’ve called out Gilbert for it or not, but I do agree with you on him as well. I wish they would concentrate more on getting the basket versus just trying to draw a foul. I don’t like it.

There, I’ve said it…. it’s not that hard. Now can Iowa fans quit their constant lying about what they all know is true about CC?? She flops, she’s a drama queen, she is a constant whiner…. and is not a good defender because she doesn’t get back on defense. These are all blatantly obvious aspects of her game that are on display night after night…. yet NOBODY will admit it, and they make her out to be something she’s not. Why??

It's not just a favorable in-game whistle. She gets to bully every ref in every game with no repercussions. She ha absolutely deserved multiple technicals this season for the way she talks to referees. There is not a player in the country that can get away with what she has.

Sure, but that's not her fault. I don't blame her one bit for working refs as much as she's allowed. You see it at all levels of basketball, and I guess I don't take a huge issue with it. What I take issue with is Iowa fans pretending it doesn't exist.

Bluder totally blew the chance to have a few killer teams with CC. She didn't coach CC to be a team player... instead she let her be the Alpha dog. Playing her 38+ minutes and 35 shots a game isn't a winning formula for championships. They had a golden opportunity last year and their playing style doomed them. Going after nobody in the portal made it even worse this year.

There is zero chance Bill would have allowed that style. Put CC on the team with Ashley Joens and play that team style of ball, and they would be nearly unstoppable.

Bill did run something of a one woman show with Bridget and then Ashley - not to the degree of CC this year, however. But then he turned that on a dime when he got Stephanie. I really thought they had a formula that could result in a deep NCAA run. You could see that Ash was playing differently, well within the system. But then - nutcup.

Just imagine for a moment Ashley, Caitlin and a healthy Stephanie on last year's ISU team. That would have been something.

Lol, she's never once taken 35 shots in a game during her career at Iowa.

Why do you feel the need to white knight for her on a cyclone message board?

This is the rub. Why isn’t it enough for Hok Fan to be happy with just having Clark and the national attention that comes with it? Why the surprise that Cyclone fans don’t like a Hawkeye player?

Ultimately just example #9 million of Iowa fans’ insecurity

You must not have watched the last 2 years of the Ashley Joens team...

Ashley's usage percentage her senior year was 33.6% which was first in the Big 12. Caitlin's is higher, but let's not act like Bill wouldn't allow someone to completely dominate possession of the ball.
