Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

Kxno this morning was all about how the refs screwed them, how the pressure on the refs is too great on the road to call a fair game, and then Ross had the balls to throw in his observations that Houston didn't get any favorable calls against ISU this week. UNREAL.

They know whst they're doing and I'm continually amazed that ISU fans listen to them.

It's Maya Moore to me and it's not close. She went 125-3 in high school and 150-4 at UConn, including 90 in a row. 2 NCAA titles, 4 WNBA titles, 2 gold medals

To be fair though it's hard to compare records. UCONN was loaded and Bluder has failed to build a team around a once in a generation type player. Czinano was the perfect piece for them last year but lets face it Marshall, Martin, and Davis are average guards at best. They caught lightning in a bottle last March shooting the ball but they haven't been able to find that this year. I've said it serval times but teams will be licking their chops to rub it in Iowa's face next year. Bluder has handled this whole thing like a complete a$$. It's hard to see Clark coming back for what will be a complete rebuild.

She did it at 4 different levels (HS, College, WNBA, Olympic). At some point you have enough data to say an elite player is elevating her teammates

If you are going to completely rebuild and go a heavy freshman lineup, do you want a Clark style playing with them? It would require you to have them play one way the first year and then completely tear that down and start over the second year of them? You would almost be best to redshirt that whole class and portal a team around Clark.

Iowa shared a regular season conference title with tOSU in 2021-2022 and won the conference tournament titles in 2022 and 2023.
Remind me again, does winning the conference tournament count as being Conference champs or does winning the regular season, because for a long time Iowa fans have made fun of ISU fans for saying they were conference champions in basketball for winning the Big 8/12 basketball tournament

I mean Clark will do the same thing in the WNBA and she will certainly be on an Olympic team.

And then the question is why? "She didn't have the supporting cast." Why not? The question has been stated here many times and remains unanswered: why didn't any big portal players want to transfer in to Iowa after last year?

One game away from a NC and the best player in the game returning. Hmmm....
Audi Crooks has lifted a state championship trophy.

And I'm guessing you'd consider those people idiots, so why follow their step?

Cheryl Miller is certainly close. Two time national NCAA champ and three time NCAA player of the year. It could be also argued that her teams were not loaded with the supporting talent of those UConn teams.

That was the other choice for me. Stewart’s team and individual accomplishments look like they a bit better though

Some of the blame could be laid on the Swarm collective. They wasted a ton of money on a quarterback who got hurt. Could have dangled some money towards the women’s program. Oh wait, CC probably vetoed it. Sorry, carry on.

It’s not so much her supporting cast. I’ve said this before, her usage rate is astronomically high.

Her usage rate is 40.2% this season. The NBA single season high is Russell Westbrook at 41.5% in 16-17. Look at the top 15 usage rates in the NBA for a single season. Not one championship in any of those seasons. Makes for great individual seasons, but you can’t flow the offense that much through one player and have championship-level team success. I’d argue she needs to defer more, but I don’t want to start a fight with Hawks

In all honesty, what is the ROI on blowing a bunch of Swarm funds on women's hoops? None of this is sustainable long term.
