Bracketology 2024

Looking at how the committee valued Kansas in the top 16 release they are damn near a lock for Omaha.

I wouldn't count on it. If Kansas wins out, then they deserve that #2 for sure. Their big wins in non-conference have made up for being behind Iowa State in conference. However, they play @ Houston and @Baylor, plus they get BYU at home. If they lose 2 of those, they'd be 23-8/11-7. If ISU loses to Houston and wins out, they'd be 25-6/14-4. Kansas would be 7-6 in quad 1 and 6-1 in quad 2. Iowa State would be 7-5 in quad 1 and 5-1 in quad 2. Would probably have to look at Quad 1a I suppose.

This is true ... 4/5 almost certainly is going to be Spokane, and maybe Salt Lake or Pittsburgh.
You've got it. It would be a a pretty big surprise if Spokane didn't end up with two 4/5s, SLC is getting Arizona and a 4/5 and the last one is either going to Pittsburgh or Brooklyn.

It'll never happen but they need to cut to one Western site.

Why in the heck is the SEC getting any love. Can anyone explain Auburn & Alabama's high NET ranking.

  • Alabama (18-7)
    • NET Rank: 5
    • Quad 1: 2-6
    • Record against NET Top 25 (as of 2/18): 2-4
      • Win: #7 Auburn
      • Losses: #2 Purdue, @ #13 Creighton, #3 Arizona, @ #6 Tennessee
  • Auburn (20-6)
    • NET Rank: 7
    • Quad 1: 2-5
    • Record against NET Top 25 (as of 2/18): 1-3
      • Win: #5 Alabama
      • Loss: #11 Baylor, @ #5 Alabama, #22 Kentucky
They have more tvs sets than the Big 12

Other than the brand name what is the argument for putting KU as a two seed?

2 games behind us in the big 12. Worse by every analytical ranking. Lost the head to head match up.

Probably need two western slots, one for Thursday and one for Friday, to cover the late night window each day.

They should make that western slot like Phoenix, or Sacramento, or Denver, or somewhere a little more geographically centered. Spokane is the middle of nowhere, and would only be good for Gonzaga (who couldn’t even play their if they’re the host). Heck Seattle would be better/easier to get to than Spokane

The TV people have not at all cared about local time in setting slots but you're right the western slots aren't going away but we can stop using Spokane and Boise.

So, if we win out and KU loses the 2 games I think they will: at Baylor and UH, does a 3 game better conference record, better metrics, and beating them head to head get us the 2 seed over them?

And Big 12 teams have been beating the team that has wins over UConn, Tennessee and Kentucky
They are capable of making a Final 4 run with that starting lineup. With all due respect to Baylor and Houston, Kansas is the team everyone has circled on their calendars when they come to town.

They are going to get everyone's best shot and when you only go 6 deep the Big 12 will take its toll on you. I still think they have Final 4 potential despite all the Big 12 road losses. They are built for March, not the 2 month Big 12 grind.

I don't think they are capable of that run, and that's simply due to depth. Who knows, maybe they have crazy luck and have no one get injured or dinged up, and don't hit that highly competitive game where they've got serious foul trouble. Could happen I suppose, but if one of those things do happen, they are DONE unless they have a bench player step up three or four levels above what they've shown so far.

You don't need depth to win in the tournament. They have the best starting 5 in college basketball. If one of them gets hurt that's obviously a different story.

Yes, you do need depth for 2 games in three days, three times. Foul trouble ends their run if injury doesn't.

You don't think they have solid guard play? McCullar is the best overall player in the Big 12 according to Torvicks metrics. Harris leads the Big 12 in assists and was the Defensive POY last year.
never said that.

im saying good guard play wins in march.

of course they have great guard play.

We'll see. You also have to remember Self was out last year for the tourney and they had a terrible draw getting a talented but underachieving Arkansas in the 2nd round.
