ISU @ Houston/Big Monday

Wow. Line opened at +10. Surprised it would be that high.
I think this could be a bit of a let down for us fans and Houston does win fairly comfortably. And not because the team isn’t ready or won’t play hard because we absolutely will. I just think Houston is going to be out for blood at home here because they know they need this otherwise the conference title might be lost and we handed them their first loss of the season.

Houston is due to have a night and tomorrow is perfect for it.

They certainly won't start the game down 14.

I can see it being like those years where ISU would have a good team go into Lawrence and KU would say 'not quite guys' with a 15ish point uphill kind of game.

I certainly think we are the underdog, but I think the taller the mountain is, the tougher our guys will play. If we do lose, which any objective person would have to expect, it won't be because of lack of effort.

As the saying goes, we're playing with house money right now because nobody expected we'd be in 1st place on Feb 18. Houston, on the other hand, entered the season with high expectations.

If we can get to the under 4 minute timeout with a chance to win, Houston is going to be feeling big time pressure.

Yep. And it will have zero to do with how we are playing or our effort. It’s no different than when good teams come into Hilton and get blitzed.

I think the biggest result of this game will be how we handle the adversity. High pressure, hostile crowd, coach and team that want revenge. Do we wilt and let it affect our play? Or do we keep grinding? This is the type of environment will probably have to face in The Tournament.

I don’t know that the stats currently are but I remember a couple years ago a graphic about teams that have to go on the road for Big Monday games and it’s horrendous for road teams. Rarely do they win.

Bingo. Worst case we lose and learn something about ourselves. The timing for a game like this couldn't be better.

Winning would take everything to the next level. Likely a 2 seed, Otz would be a coach of the year candidate and obviously we'd be in the driver's seat to win the conference.

I mean it makes sense.

A large chunk of the games are a blue blood team at home in a great home environment. KU has won like 41 straight big mondays at home. But they also rarely lose at home no matter what day of the week it is.

I am told their arena is smaller (7,000 or so) and just as rabid. They have a waiting season ticket list equal to the capacity of their current arena! Think all that oil money could build a bigger place, or maybe the alums like it this way?

I agree nobody expected us to be in this position at the beginning of the season but expectations change. It would be a shame to not take advantage of the situation to win the conference. Whatever happens we know we will get maximum effort from this team. Agree if it’s close under 4 minutes pressure is on Houston. Can’t wait for this game
