IHSAA State Wrestling 2024

Is there any way we could land Ross? Is he even old enough for us to be recruiting? I just really really want to see him in Ames. Reminds me of Ed Ruth.
Going to be interesting to see him and how he fills out over the next couple of years. Still a lot of frame to fill out. If he’s all in on FB could see him walking around at 230 plus a year from now. Could end up as a great edge guy

It's really tough to get a Cyclone out of the Dirty Dodge, I thought a few yrs back we had a chance when Nick Moser went back and became the FB coach, but it never really took off. I hope he comes to ISU in either sport but I'd be surprised if he does.

Stall your way to a title, the Don Bosco way! Crazy how they almost never even got dinged at least once for stalling. In the 132 match the ref was sure quick to stale mate compared to other matches and Arjes for NBC just lost control on a slide by.

Might as well put Ross down for a 4 timer. What an athlete!! How bout the Wilton Kid being a 10 seed and winning a title, good for him!

Any chance Herrera would try football and wrestling?

Broedy Hendricks (Humboldt) will be back. Fun to watch.

Knaack - Smith while not having a ton of fireworks was a great match. (Besides the stalling)

Osage - wow. 4 titles is impressive.

On Osage, A few years back Osage was an average 1A school enrollment wise, I'm assuming that's still the case, and voluntarily jumped up to 2A to avoid Don Bosco and Lisbon. It's worked perfectly and why other schools don't do the same thing is beyond me. I've tried putting it in the ear of my 1A town but to no avail.

I will give Yongblut credit, he took his shots early, but seemed to coast from that standpoint in the last period or so. Arjes failed slide by screwed him and he didn't really get to his offense after that.

Did a Bosco kid steal your girl or something? The obsession is odd.
Nope. They are a very good program and the guys are technically sound, hard to beat wrestlers. No discredit there, Just have never cared for the arrogance with some of the people in that school.

Osage is not an average 1A enrollment. Not sure where you got that information.

A few years? Like when? I’ve followed the BEDS pretty closely from about 2010-2020 due to a son wrestling and Osage was never in 1A. They were close 1-2 years but never went. Clarion is closer to 1A than Osage was.

I heard on the radio that their head coach Brent Jennings is from Clarinda, did a search and saw this last night.

They have always been 2A and insisted on staying even when they would otherwise been 1A.

From an article in 2020, I see that Osage has a long history of success, which is more likely to account for their overall success than a paragraph in isolation there might otherwise suggest.

Jennings has been at the helm for the last 24 years ...

For so many years, Osage has been near the top of Iowa’s Class 2A, but never at the top. The Green Devils have won four state team titles, but have finished runner-up 11 other times, the most of any school in the state.

After winning in 1981, Osage took home silver three straight years, from 1983-85, again in 1994 and once more in 2002, when their 112.5 points would’ve won a title 18 of the previous 20 years [2nd to Emmetsburg] — and also four of the next five.
A series of small classes came through Osage, and the school’s enrollment actually dropped them to 1A eligibility. Jennings fought to keep his team in 2A — a tradition, he argued, because the class the Green Devils had always been in since wrestling expanded to three classes.

But even more, he admitted that 2A was perhaps more open than 1A. Rather than deal with the likes of Don Bosco, Lisbon, Underwood and West Sioux, Jennings took his chances with a smaller enrollment in a bigger class. …

It was 2020, Osage won the 2A title with 85 points and Lisbon got runner up in 1A with 144 points and there was words exchanged on Twitter between cael happel and Osage kids about it

My pov after watching the finals (and most of the tournament on flo)
1. Herrera is going to be tough to keep out of the lineup after Yonger is done. His pace and style reminds me of Yonger in a more traditional heavy weight body. He was impressive.
2. Jacob Helgeson is a physical specimen who has a style that will translate to college. Can someone please, please tell me he's committed to the Cyclones?
3. Kane Knaaktgeboren has a style that is very hard to describe. Kind of a mix of MJ & Feldkamp with Swiderski forward pressure. I have no idea how it will translate to college but I'm excited to watch.
4. Carter Pearson with a flawless win over Jake Knight. He reminds me of Nate Gallick in his composure, speed and tough defense. He never got out of position. He's on or near the top of my recruiting wish list.
5. Dreshawn Ross - Keep him away from FB recruiters. He's right there with Carter Pearson near the top of my list.... I'd offer his senior brother Damarion a sweet deal in hopes of a brother combo package.

Overall I'm excited for our current commits and think our coaches are doing a great job.

Wait are you saying Osage wouldn't hang with Don Bosco if they were 1A?

Where would I be able to get a complete overview of the wrestling results.
That POS DM register is pathetic.
You might try the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

Though I don't subscribe (or even visit much), that I was able to access might be because I had just (incidentally) done a cleanup and cleared all my browser history and cookies. But I read their three articles about 3A, 2A, and 1A last night, no problem. It was within whatever their allotment is for free articles. All three are linked on their main page right now.

The focus of the articles is eastern Iowa. But in each article at the bottom they had the finals results for all weight classes for that class, and the top ten team finishes.
