Time for a Real Discussion About Caitlin Clark

I feel bad for all of you living in Iowa having to get all of this drivel shoved down your throats for months.

I'm guessing Murph will come in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in a "Box the Clown" contest later tonight.

It's part of the Saturday Night football deal so I don't think there's a publicly available breakdown anywhere.
All I found was that the Big 10 was paid $7 Billion over 7 years for Fox, CBS and NBC to broadcast as they saw fit. Tonight's game was selected as part of that deal to stream by Peacock but it did not break down the specific amount toward this game. I may be old and cranky but it was obvious that Bluder was told to make sure that CC sets the record tonight instead of in Lincoln. Things fell apart after the game was well in hand in the 4th quarter but when desperation set in in the final minutes, she couldn't make a a shot probably to the delight of Big 10 brass and Peacock. It would be interesting to know when Peacock picked this game to stream.

Dear lord the local media is nauseating today. We get it, she's good. How about mention an instant classic where another local team beats the #7 team in a two OT thriller.
Not kidding, Murph’s voice started cracking when he talked about Clark’s last home game today.

Peacock picked this game in October.

FOX also pays the Big Ten a fortune.

There's no TV conspiracy here. I do, however, think Iowa wanted her to break it at home and by the time they figured out Nebraska wasn't playing along they were in too deep and forgot to actually win the game.

I think it is hilarious.

All the B10 homers laughed at the B12 for having to buy ESPN+ to stream everything. And we still have people on here and other sites complaining about ESPN+.

But now Being a B10 fan you need Cable/sat for CBS, NBC, Fox, FS1, FS2,, you need a sub to BTN+, and if you want all B10 content you need an upgraded sub that costs more, than just 1 school. You need Peacock, you need paramount+ (although currently they are only simulcasting content, but no reason they wont some day do what Peacock is doing)

B12= Cable
Plus:
ESPN+ at $10.99 (you get a ton of content from many sports and many conferences) (or part of Hulu package deal)

B10= Cable
Plus:
BTN+ $9.95 (for one school) $14.95 (for all conference)
Peacock $5.99 Premium or $11.99 Premium Plus
Paramount+ $5.99 Essential or $11.99 Premium (if and when they start putting games exclusively on there)

B10 wants their huge media deal, and love all that money, but they dont want to pay for it. This is what happens when you sign a giant deal with multiple partners, they are going to get their money back, one way or the other.

And these B10 trolls laughed and laughed at us having to have ESPN+, which replaced CyTV with a ton more content, and can deduct that sub price from the cost if you had CyTV and dropped it to add ESPN+

Time will tell what this new sports channel that they are coming up with will do. My guess is you will get everything out their for sports but it will cost more But everyone will have to have that sub from all conferences if they want everything. So everyone will be on even footing at that point, when it comes to content.

From the article:

Like Staley, Mulkey coaches in the Southeastern Conference. It’s a 14-hour drive from Baton Rouge to Iowa City. And still she was compelled to take a passively aggressive shot at Clark’s surging popularity and broadening respect.

In the very public forum of a pregame press conference, Mulkey surreptitiously submarined Clark with this comment: “We don’t have any players shooting 40 times a game, like you see around the country. That’s not us.”

There couldn’t have been anyone inside the sport, or adjacent to it, who failed to recognize the comment was aimed at Clark, even though it lacked any basis in fact. Clark leads the nation in scoring at 32.1 points per game. She has attempted 560 field goals in 25 games, an average of 22.4. That’s barely half of 40. That’s more shots than anyone else in the sport is taking, but she converts 47.3 percent.

Mulkey’s implication is Clark represents what George Costanza famously referred to in “Seinfeld” as a “chucker”: a player who shoots without regard to game situations, time and score, propriety and, most of all, teammates. In my neighborhood, we called such a player a “gunner”. Whatever they labeled such a player where Mulkey grew up in Louisiana, she honestly should know better than to place Clark anywhere near that pejorative
.
I mean Mulkey exaggerated, but the data does support CC takes the most shots of anyone in division 1 women’s basketball.

With that said, I’m not a CC fan, but I can appreciate greatness when I see it. She has made many shots look routine even if she takes a very high volume of shots. And she certainly has attracted a larger audience to women’s basketball. The biggest issue people have of her (myself included) is her on court behavior.

So early congrats to CC for setting a new scoring record. Just don’t whine/complain/flop on the next possession :)

She does.

CC = 22.4 spg
JuJu = 22.3 spg

I keep seeing these videos every time they play of people lined up for hours just to get in the door before their games. Like why? Do they not have assigned seats?

Not sure about all schools but I know tOSU does general seating for WBB games, not assigned. These places typically average 3,000-5,000 per game for WBB in a 15,000-18,000 seat arena, so there's no real point to assigned seating.

You are right since this game was selected in October. I was paying attention in 1986 for Ronnie Harmony’s Rose Bowl performance. Investigation later had him admit a $50,000 early payment from his agents prior to the NFL Draft outside of whatever transpired in Pasadena. Since then I have held my nose when driving by the IC exit on 80.
