Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Just let this sink in folks.

The CR Gazette did an open records request and found the actual average attendance (based on scanned tickets) for Iowa's men's basketball games this season has been 5,202 (35% capacity). This includes an average of 3,303 for weeknight games and 6,390 for Fri/Sat/Sun games.

Their lowest attendance thus far has been 1,351 (9% capacity) for a 2pm conference game on Superbowl Sunday that immediately followed their women's game.

Iowa could literally move their weeknight games to one of the local high schools and they'd be fine.

I think it's safe to assume these attendance numbers will only get worse during the remainder of this season.

You could say this program has officially hit rock bottom.

Did they intentionally stop scoring at the end of the game so they can score those points in CHA in front of dozens of their home fans?

Just contemplate if you had Fran as your coach for 15 years how insane that would make you. He has almost wiped out a generation of fans following Hawkeye basketball. I really believe letting Fran coach for 15 years has done more damage to their program that Lickliter's three. Keep it up Fran!

At this point how do you NOT get rid of Fran? They are going to be lucky to finish .500 overall and fans are done. Not gonna get any better next year. I think Fran actually leaves on his own after this season.

Will be interesting to see who Iowa targets (whenever he's gone). I know nearly everyone says DeVries is a slam dunk. Have at it. I don't think they're in a position to assume a mid major coach is gonna be what they need. They need an older retired coach to come in and do something with a younger one waiting in the wings a few years down the line.
