Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Someone posted this gif in relation to their team on the hawk rivals board and I have to admit I laughed really hard.

Sandfort is probably a 3rd option as a spot up shooter only on a top 25 team. Dude can’t play a lick of defense

Fran has to ignore analytics, metrics, trends, and well general reality. All these years he has to know his defenses are garbage yet he's never bothered to bring in defensive specialist.

Yikes. I don’t see another win on that schedule. Maybe they could pull an upset over PSU at home? They can’t keep him at 14-18, can they?

Does TJ have his assistant send Freeman a note to keep his head up through this losing streak that’s about to hit them?

Iowa’s NCAA chances have to be zero, right? Unless they win the conference tournament of course.

But @NoCreativity has stated they have made the tourney 5 straight year and are at .500 in conference play and this rebuilding year (have heard that every year with Iowa for the last 10 years) along with Fran going out on his own terms.

Did I hear on the radio Iowa gave up 34 pts in the final 12 minutes.
I mean, holy **** how is that possible?

Weird game to watch. Iowa looked like they had total control of the thing and then suddenly fell off a cliff. And that with one Maryland player leaving with a knee injury and another exiting with assistance (not sure if he came back or not).
Iowa spent their last 10 minutes in the MN game. They were way behind then and came back, this one was the opposite it seems.

Just let this sink in folks.

The CR Gazette did an open records request and found the actual average attendance (based on scanned tickets) for Iowa's men's basketball games this season has been 5,202 (35% capacity). This includes an average of 3,303 for weeknight games and 6,390 for Fri/Sat/Sun games.

Their lowest attendance thus far has been 1,351 (9% capacity) for a 2pm conference game on Superbowl Sunday that immediately followed their women's game.

Iowa could literally move their weeknight games to one of the local high schools and they'd be fine.

I think it's safe to assume these attendance numbers will only get worse during the remainder of this season.

You could say this program has officially hit rock bottom.

There have been many discussions on whether any of Iowa's players would find minutes on Iowa State's current team. I think that it would be a resounding "No." None of them would, defensively, be good enough to sniff the floor. Now, maybe over the course of a season & 1 off-season, a couple of their players might be able to pick up the defensive intensity & bulk up in the weight room to add depth to a roster like ours. But, their entire team is one-dimensional. If they aren't shooting 50% or higher against mediocre or better teams, they have a hard time winning.
To be honest I don't think with how they play defense any of them would find a spot on Drake's roster. Maybe Freeman would get minutes since he is a big, but none of their guards would.
