***Official Super Bowl Game Thread***

KC took advantage of what the Niners gave them. KC had two huge drives and stops when it mattered. I don’t like KC at all but they used every opportunity given to them in second half. A lot of times that’s how games are won.
But that’s the point. You can’t say the Niners didn’t lose the game because they had the same opportunities and dicked it away. McCaffrey fumble first drive going right down the field, muffed punt, blocked XP and then not scoring off the short field from the Mahomes INT. Both things are true in this game. KC made the big plays but also San Fran really botched it. Same could have been said had the Niners won.

It was a VERY Iowa State game by the 9’ers tonight.

I’m sure many of your felt it too.

All the same undisciplined mistakes that Cyclone football makes in big games - penalties, missed kicks, special teams miscues, crazy mental mistakes like the RG letting Chris Jones burst up the middle UNTOUCHED on 3rd and 4… coaching head scratchers, particularly on defense late in the game and OT (i.e. why on EARTH tip your hand on blitz against Mahomes and then still all-out blitz!? That’s high school ass **** right there!)

So, so disappointing. Chiefs didn’t exactly go out and earn a win. They just wait for the 9’ers to unravel.

Oh - and injuries. Very, very Cyclone of the 49’ers to get horrible injury luck in a big game.

This sucks.
Equating the SB loss to ISU losses isn’t a good look. Brock played for ISU and he plays for different coaches now - I don’t get how they’re related. Is CMC on the Niner’s staff?

It wasn't muffed. Hit off a guy blocking. Just really unlucky. 9ers needed to do something with that pick to start the 2nd half. Makes that whole 3rd quarter different
Sorry not muffed but McLoud tried to pick it up instead of falling on it like you are taught in pee wee football. No idea what he was doing.

Shanahan cost them the game…. simple as that.

Could have easily gotten the 1st down on SF’s last drive in regulation by running the ball, and then taken the clock down to nothing and kicked the game winning FG.

And then taking the ball first in OT was stupid. I wonder if he didn’t know the OT rules?

Feel for Brock. Nothing to be ashamed of tonight though. Except his coach.
Seriously. What a ******* idiot, everybody and their mother knows why you take it 2nd. Except him.

The decision on 3rd and 4 was terrible in ot. You run again then pass in 4th down, fg is worthless. Insane to take the ball first.

Just blows my mind this wasn’t even one of the Chiefs better teams or regular seasons and they still win the superbowl. I have that awful feeling they are the next Patriots. They will probably roll off another 3 super bowls in the next 6 years.

He certainly didn't help very much. 2 catches. 4 yards. Not saying anything about the play during the rest of his career, but in this game, Kittle was far less effective than he was billed.
Low scoring game and defense was the difference in OT. Putting any blame on Kittle is lame.

How bout not one holding call on KC o line all night! I know refs don’t have an easy job but some of them were blatant and never called!
and the kc right tackle was not on the line of scrimmage 75 percent of the game but never called once. Big advantage on pass protection

Wtf Niners
Tough to beat Mahomes in OT. Purdy did all he could. He likely makes a TD pass in OT if it wasn’t a cover 0 blitz with no time to throw.

Each team made some big mistakes. To me the turning point was when SF couldn’t capitalize on the mahomes INT to start the second half. They could had taken control of the game there

Overall, it was an entertaining game, and Purdy played well enough to quiet the naysayers. Mahomes cements himself as a top 5 QB all time
"No time to throw." Amen.
A lot people complaining about the D.
I'm more concerned about the oline, by far and away.

Guy needs a class on playing with a lead.
Three biggest blown leads in Super Bowl history.
Run the ball.
I hope people can stop calling him a genius. The D was poor, but Shanahan lost that game. Bizarre how he completely abandoned what was working in the first half

kelce had a pretty blatant pick play in their overtime drive too. Oh well. I'm over it. Sucks for purdy but the future for him is bright.

Kelce is getting up there, so we shall see. I think people are still way too early on the Mahomes catching Brady thing. Seven Super Bowls is an insane number when just playing 7 years in the NFL by itself (yes I know QBs are different) is a nice career. Will Mahomes play at this level into his 40s? Idk. Not saying he can’t catch Tom, but that’s still four more Super Bowls just to tie Brady and Brady (as much as I loathe him) beat Mahomes H2H in the Super Bowl badly, as well as beat him H2H in the AFC Championship when what’s his face jumped offside.

Chiefs were backed into corner running cover zero fair bit told end of game. Needed to run something to counter that and SF never did.
Spags was nails tonight.

How do you figure? 7 different 49ers players had more yards than him. He was only targeted 3 times.
This is a guy who was targeted 90 times this season, for 65 catches and over a thousand yards.
For whatever reason, he was a non-factor in this game. Maybe the Chiefs successfully schemed him out of the game. Maybe he didn't play well. Maybe the coach just didn't draw anything up for him. It doesn't matter the reason. He is one of San Fran's stars and he was completely mitigated in the biggest game of the season. The story of this Super Bowl cannot be written without mentioning his lack of production.
