And early odds on who is most likely to get in for the Class of 2024:

Very little rock and roll music has been created for the past few decades. And yet, they keep holding rock and roll HOF nominations every year. So artists that aren't really rock and roll artists, or ones that aren't of the caliber of the early inductees are getting voted in. They really should stop adding new artists every year.

I think people's expectations of what rock is hasn't evolved as much as the music has. There is a lot of damn fine rock music being produced, but it's a lot different than it was in the 80s or 90s. Even 2000 to 2010 looks vastly different from the past 8-10 years.

Instead of people evolving, they're stuck trying to find bands that still fit an old standard.

Ugh. Some of the rock groups on this list come across as OK in my book. Lenny Kravitz for wrote horrible rhymes and cliché lyrics for a lot of his hits. I like Janes addiction, but what are they doing on this list? Oasis were a big deal for a couple albums, but I don't recall them sustaining.

Ozzy is not in? I assume Black Sabbath is, but it's odd that Ozzy isn't for his 4 decades of solo work. Granted he was most relevant on his own in the 80s/90s.

Rakim is an epic lyrist and MC. Probably won't make the cut, but super key figure in the rap scene 30-35 years ago.

Eh, rant over. I'll gonna go yell at some kids to get off my lawn now.

Mariah Carey though? Is that considered rock by the youngins these days?

No f'in way. My idea of rock is harder than alternative which is harder than pop - and she's a lot of pop.

The order of the genres in a linear "hardness/aggressiveness" scale...

Pop - Alternative - Rock - Hard Rock - NuMetal - Metal - Heavy Metal
