Bracketology 2024

Every single game left on Iowa State's schedule is a Q1 game... The non con won't be a factor. Also Wisconsin has several soft Q1 games that can easily end up being Q2. They are getting mileage out of losing to good teams.

That isn’t true, plus OU may be in danger slipping to Q2 if they fall below 30 in net.

West Virginia is a Quad 3 game, @Kstate is currently a Quad 2 game, not sure where you're getting your bad info from.

@ Kstate may be a Q1 game by the time its played. Being at 76 they only have to move up to 75 for it to be a Q1 road game for ISU and KSU has plenty of good teams still to play to bring it up to there.

according to joey brackets, Wiscy losing @ michigan last night dropped them down 1 spot on the overall seed list. still a 3 seed ahead of us. Was a Q2 loss

Seriously in what world does Wisconsin have a better resume than us? That's just absurd. Their best win was over Marquette at home 2 months ago. They lost to Provide by 13, got run out of the gym by Arizona, and have loses to Penn State, Nebraska and Michigan.

If we want Omaha as a first site, we need Marquette and Kansas to lose more...

I actually think Memphis is an option and our competition for that site is Alabama, if you need another reason to cheer against the Tide

Auburn or Tennessee would most likely get the 2nd Memphis spot.

Does Marquette really matter? No reason we can't be in the same regional. Kansas is the only team we can't play again, making it an either or situation.

We also need Wisco to keep losing.

Remember you can have two high profile teams being on different side of the bracket. For example, ISU and KU could both be in as 3 seeds.

If we can stay seeded above Kansas or Baylor we should be fine. Two out of Purdue, Illinois, WI and Marquette will be placed in Indy and Illinois would get pushed to Pittsburgh before Omaha. If Iowa State does what they need to do they will be seeded above WI and Illinois anyways.

The perfect scenario is Iowa State and Baylor both getting seeded above Kansas. There will be a sh!t ton of tickets that will hit the secondary market and Iowa State fans would absolutely flood Omaha.
Champaign is 8 miles closer to Pittsburgh than it is Omaha. I always love this time of year when there are huge shifts in the bracket based on tiny distances.

Yes we can play Marquettee, but if they get a 2 and we get a 3 seed. That meeting would be in the Detroit or a Sweet 16 matchup.

We aren't a 6 seed and neither is Marquette, so only one of us can get Omaha.

Maybe Marquette prefers Indy too.

We are competing against:
  1. Kansas
  2. Marquette
  3. Wisconsin
  4. Illinois
Only 2 of the 5 can get Omaha

Memphis was cool when they had the Pyramid as an arena, now it’s a Bass Pro shop.

They don't. Which is why Lunardi is consistently rated as a below average bracketologist. He loves names on the fronts of jerseys over metrics.

ISU is #9 in NET and #12 in Kenpom
WI is #15 and #14

Look at how he treats Kansas. He has them #8 overall ahead of us and IL even though Kansas is #12 in NET and #13 in Kenpom. He loves a blue blood.

I get KU is a major basketball brand but Wisconsin? It’s been almost a decade since they were a high level program

@ChrisMWilliams @brentblum
You mentioned on WED's podcast not knowing how first weekend sites are assigned for the MBB NCAAs. Here is how it works. The Committee completes its 1-68 Seed List. Then the top 16 teams on the list are assigned, in order, from 1 thru 16 to the closest available venue with two teams to each of the 8 sites.

The #1 overall seed has the option of choosing their 1st/2nd round site and regional assignment.

If Houston is #1 overall (for example), they could theoretically choose Omaha instead of Memphis even though Memphis is closer. And then the dominos would fall from there.

So we want Baylor to win at KU on Saturday? It's maybe too early to look at tiebreakers in the Big 12 standings, but with the unbalanced schedules, we're locked into a h2h tiebreaker over KU.

But also, tie breakers really only matter for first place, otherwise it's only for Big 12 tournament seeding. I'm not sure the ncaa committee will put alot of weight on one h2h matchup.
