Cyclones in the pros 2023-2024 (hoops)

Saw he was complaining about that rule to the media. I get where he’s coming from cause this could cost him $50M. But I couldn’t disagree with him more.

The league is asking you to play 79% of games to qualify for end-of-year awards. Not even 80%. The league had to do this because players were completely taking advantage and playing the minimum amount of regular-season games they possibly could. It was really hurting the product. Sorry, if you can’t play in 80% of games then you’re not All-NBA

Still love Hali though!
I wonder if the NBA would be better suited to reduce the number of games each team plays. I know they want inventory to sell to networks, but most games don't end up on national broadcasts anyway. Also feels like a big reason the NFL is popular for casual viewers and fantasy is because the format is so easy to follow. You know your team is playing Sunday except for a couple of times per season where it will be Tuesday or Monday. In the NBA the scheduling is all over the place. If they pared it down they could probably make a more organized schedule.

This.

I'll add that the NBA had to do something. Their TV ratings are tanking and they have a TV deal coming up. Whose going to want to pay top dollar for the stars to not play?

With Niang picking up the scoring I was curious how he compared to some past NBA Cyclones in just total scoring.

Hornacek: 15659
Tinsley: 4652
Haliburton: 3908
Morris: 3600
Grayer: 3257
Cato: 2960
Hoiberg: 2944
Niang: 2911
Fizer: 2782

Niang gonna pass his old coach any night now.

Will be interesting to see if Monte can pass Tinsley.

Hornacek played two full decades injury free at 14.5 ppg. Tyrese can catch him but needs to have a healthy 15ish year career.

I know he’s old school but don’t feel like Hornacek gets enough credit.

Cool to see this. Haliburton can add 1600+ per season when healthy.

Hornacek is another Purdy-like story. Unheralded but just smart and able to perform in his craft.

I was curious about Victor Alexander so I looked him up -- 2542.

He probably owns most of the ISU nba records in all stats just from being so consistent for 18 or 19 seasons.

Without looking it up I’m guessing Tinsley didn’t quite pass him in assists but Tyrese will pass both.

Awesome information. After some thought, the only one I could add was

Zaid Abdul-Aziz - 4557 pts in a 10-year career with a half dozen nba teams.

Thats definitely more than cup of coffee #s. Never saw him play.

I was watching nba during victor Alexander’s years but not growing up an ISU fan as a kid and tv only showing marquee teams I’m sure I never saw him. I did watch Cato play a lot because his teams were on tv a lot and then Fred was on a lot the years he played with KG.

Lots of other guys in the 150-1500 points range.

Tanking? They’re looking to triple the tv deal.

A little bit of a role reversal - in the stats anyway - in the Monte / Pistons vs. Georges / Cavaliers last night. Detroit now has Bogdanovic, Cunningham and Monte healthy and gave the tough Cavs a game, which included Pistons' leads in the 4th quarter.

Georges, who has been scoring in double figures throughout this Cavs' resurgence (11 wins in 12 games) was a model of low-scoring efficiency with 4 PT (his lowest total of 2024) on 2-4 shooting, 5 assists and zero turnovers in 17 MIN. I can't remember seeing Georges with 0 3PT attempts in a game in recent years.

Monte, on the other hand, came out shooting and ended with 8 PT on 4-8 / 0-1 shooting with 2 assists and a turnover. On a blind test, I would've guessed those lines belonged to the other ex Cyclone.

Doesn’t matter the ratings of 1 individual game on TNT. The NBA is popular worldwide with a young audience.

The Cavs got a 2nd W in a back-to-back last night, winning a tight one over Memphis, 108-101. Georges again was in single digits, finishing with 5 PT in 22 MIN on 2-7 / 1-4 shooting and 5 boards.

The Pacers dropped their 2nd straight on the East Coast, losing a lead in the 4th vs. the Knicks, 109-105. Tyrese is still on limited minutes which contributed to the loss, I'm sure. He finished with 15 PT in 22 MIN on 6-10 / 2-6 shooting and 4 REB, 5 AST and 1 TO.

THT recorded another DNP in Utah's loss to Philly
