***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

My neighbors snow gage is at 8 inches morning, started out at 13 on Monday, so we are melting about 1.66 inches per day. If my math is correct by Tuesday most of it should be gone except the larger piles.
First thing that happens with snow melt is the air gets knocked out of it and you get the biggest loss right away. Then it is compact and doesn't melt as fast.

You're probably right, it went down about 2 inches Monday and Tuesday. In the last 24 hours it's went down in the 1-1.5 inch range.

I've been across that bridge and the one down at Red Rock in heavy fog, and it is a pretty freaky feeling.
It freaks me out even in good weather. Every time I am thinking what am I supposed to do if I go over this itty bitty rail? Sometimes I even put that rescue tool right next to me on my way out of the driveway. Wind is scary on it too.

Can I ask a dumb question? Why do I see so many people, businesses, cities etc etc out moving snow around. It is going to be 50 degrees next week. Seems like a lot of people out wasting gas.
What others have said and plus you want that stuff off the roads/drains if rain hits so it can drain away instead of pooling up and creating ice arenas everywhere.

My wife is freaked out by that too. Someday, we are going to go back to Key West (where we had our honeymoon) and I want to take Highway 1 down (we flew on a puddle jumper last time which freaked me out a little bit lol) and she's not going to like that drive.

One of my kids drove that but I would have no desire to do that at all!

That lady seems a few apples short of a fruit basket. Especially considering this is the response from an actual climate scientist:

"Dreading for a long time".........? What's a long time in her book..........4 months?

Because I remember well just 2 seasons ago the "dreading" had nothing to do with water. What a bunch of useless tools.

I think we're getting lucky with this slow thaw. Just above freezing for like 7-8 days in a row, letting the snow pack melt slowly. We'd have a real mess if it had ramped up to 50 degrees right away.

Especially since a lot of drifts are in places a lot of people aren't used to. I think we'd see a lot of people finding water running to places it wasn't expected.
