Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Harding is the type of kid that won't go away unless he gets run off. And Fran, even though he is a big meany to the media and refs, doesn't have much of a track record of running off his under performing or under qualified players. He hopes they just see the light, like Riley Mulvey.
This could come back to bite me in the ass later, but why the hell is Riley still on the team? I'm sorry, but to RS as a sophomore because you're not ready to play at this level probably means you're not cut out for this level. He's just eating a scholarship.

I am really going to miss Fran. Said it prior to the season, but I'll say it again, I feel like we're getting close to a day where we wake up and he is no longer the coach of the U of I MBB program

I don't think Beth will let him go but I do think Fran may leave.

If Goetz was willing to let Brian Ferentz go, she'll have no problem letting Fran go.

I think the bigger question is, what would actually motivate the Iowa fanbase to actually show up to games? They haven't routinely packed Carver since the early Alford years - a couple decades ago. I think it's time to admit that Iowa fans largely don't care about men's basketball.
They will care if they start winning. Look what happened to wbb. Just gotta win.

Frontrunning bandwagoning fanbase.

I thought I read or heard somewhere that he redshirting this year with the intention to transfer. Fran is doing him a favor by not playing him and burning up anymore of his eligibility. That said, I don't believe he is actively in the portal either, so maybe I heard that wrong.

Edit: The more I think about it, the more likely it seems that he is headed down a level. So probably hasn't entered yet so he can enjoy one more season on a full ride scholarship enjoying the benefits of a Big 10 travel schedule and the perks that come with being a Big 10 athlete.

Okay if that's the case, that's bad. Unless he had some sort of health issue or family issue, you don't do that if you're Fran. You're literally wasting a spot where he could've gone out and gotten a player from the portal. And I realize that he's horrible at doing that very thing, but simply not trying is ridiculous.

It's my hope that they did that to give him 2 years to play at another school

I would have to go back and look, but hasn't Fran left scholarships on the table back to back years now?

Beth should wait until CC anounces if she is staying or going. If she leaves, act NOW. If she stays,

It's the same reason I date ugly chicks...lack of options. If Fran can't get somebody better, reward the kid. It's not Fran's money.

Nothing wrong with having Iowa players that are good enough for this level (Wieskamp, the Murray’s, Uthoff), the problem is Fran has always been a terrible recruiter and NIL is only magnifying that. Actually really amazing what Iowa accomplished under Fran considering his lack of recruiting.
Right? Not everyone can lose the first weekend at the rate he has.

With an enormous amount of money remaining on his extended contract, there's now way Fran is gonna leave on his own. The university will have to buy him out.
Yep, that is how almost every coach gets fired nowadays. ISU did the same with Prohm.

And It's really not that much compared to other coaches. I think his buyout after this year is approximately 7 million. I lean that he'll be back next year but I think it's 60/40

Would be $8.52 million after this year. Beth either needs to pay the buyout or add a year into his contract after this year since he will only have 4 years remaining after this year. Without reupping him for one more year, the buyout next year would be $6.48 million. So she would save 2 million by firing him next if she doesn’t extend him a year. So she will have a decision to make.

Great team chemistry guy, excels on the practice squad, and enjoys getting a free education.
I'm guessing #3 is the correct answer.
