Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

If Goetz was willing to let Brian Ferentz go, she'll have no problem letting Fran go.

I think the bigger question is, what would actually motivate the Iowa fanbase to actually show up to games? They haven't routinely packed Carver since the early Alford years - a couple decades ago. I think it's time to admit that Iowa fans largely don't care about men's basketball.

Serious question. When Illinois visits Iowa this year, what happens if the Orange Krush invades Hawkeye-Carver Arena on an Orange Krush road trip like they had planned to do last year?

Because plenty of good seats are available, what does the AD do?

a) Not allowed like last year

b) Order more pizza

c) Give them coupons for next year

d) Convince the CR Boys and Girls Clubs it won't be as boring as last year

d) Other (please explain)

The problem was with how they tried to obtain the tickets last ear. I'm sure they are more than welcome to purchase tickets through Iowa.

A new athletic director. A men's basketball team with an obvious attendance / income problem.
Put everything aside and look clearly, unfiltered, and unbiased. You do see how this will end right?

At a minimum Fran will be here next year. To be fair though Iowa mens hoops is getting absolutely sacked because their fan base is full of band wagon fans. It all feels like the beginning of the end for Iowa winningest coach.

Iowa fans do a great job with other sports. Maybe they are just tapped out money and time wise. Iowa football, wrestling and women’s bball all do great with two of those being inside CHA.

I don't think the reason Iowa fans stay away from CHA has anything to do with being tapped out money and time wise. I've said this numerous times but fans, especially students, are tired of watching a bunch of kids from the surrounding area play on Fran's AAU team. 7-13 scholarship players are from the state of Iowa or the QC's.

Nothing wrong with having Iowa players that are good enough for this level (Wieskamp, the Murray’s, Uthoff), the problem is Fran has always been a terrible recruiter and NIL is only magnifying that. Actually really amazing what Iowa accomplished under Fran considering his lack of recruiting.

Hey Scott, if you call that the "verge of apathy", how empty does it have to be before you just call it apathy?

Meanwhile in Ames, yesterday students were lining up in the cold outside Hilton Coliseum nine hours before tipoff, and they've already started to line up in the cold for a game which tips off two days from now.

Beth announced she's moving the remainder of the men's basketball home games to West High School and only the lower bleachers will be pulled out.

I'm not saying that every player from the state has been bad for them. I'm saying he's had numerous guys that are flat out not Big 10 basketball players, let alone starters.

Look at their women's program.

They'll come in droves if the next coach starts building a winner.

If I was the Iowa AD and had infinite Big Ten TV money...

-- call Fran in, tell him it's over, he can retire gracefully and be honored or fired... up to him
-- calling DeVries and offering him whatever he wants
???
-- respectable basketball program!

(Or so I'd hope.)

I’m fine with last night because Iowa wasn’t making the tourney even with a win last night. Might not make the NIT, which I’m kind of hoping for at this point. Iowa needs to move on from Fran. It’s time.
Next year doesn't look particularly bright either with Fran not knowing how to use the portal. Hopefully Beth doesn't drag this out.
