***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

I'm extremely limited with this stuff so no clue what that means. To be honest I'd try and I would make it worse. It happens a lot.

Another thing to check when your furnace is doing that is the outside vent from the furnace. If it get's plugged with snow or ice the furnace won't vent and it won't allow furnace to start up.

Since it does not appear they are already here I would bet good money both games get postponed from tomorrow.
OSU hasn't traveled to Ames yet? WTH? They dont have the internet there to check weather? Flying commercial? Taking a bus? Should've been here yesterday. They would get out ok on Sunday.
My Saturday is ruined! :(

Just wondering if I should clear out the driveway right now, but the wind is probably gonna put it right back on the drive way.
My driveway is north facing and really wasn't too bad this morning, so I just left it. Figured whatever I did this morning would have to be redone later anyway.

Yes, this happens when it's really cold. The condensate from the furnace exhaust will freeze where it comes out the side of your house. And eventually block the exhaust. So the furnace will stop as a safety measure to keep CO from accumulating in your house and killing you.

My brother had this happen when he was in Florida about 10 years ago. Super cold snap then it warmed up. When he got home he opened his garage door and a wave of water came out. Furnace had stopped and the pipes froze. Then when it warmed up the ice accumulation on the exhaust melted and the furnace started working again.

Thank god his insurance covered most of it but it was a huge mess and he lost a few personal items that hurt.

They just don’t postpone conference basketball games. Some flights will get out tonight. I hope they postpone it until Sunday. But I’d bet a lot they don’t.

What is the possibility that the OKST game is postponed? Have tickets but means driving from Bettendorf. Thought of driving to Ames this morning before it gets real bad and staying in a hotel for a couple of nights.

Don’t do it. You’d probably be better off trying tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah my last house I lived in that was always an issue when we had a good amount of snow and wind. Those were fun times having to go out and walk through the drifts and clear that area out.

Thanks AdRock4Cy and Angie; unlikely we will be going! Got the tickets for my wife's birthday, so she will be disappointed but hopefully postponed

I would also be super bummed! I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you guys can celebrate her somehow else! As a fellow January birthday, I can confirm that it sucks!

They just made a pass-through here about two minutes ago so it is a little bit more clear than it was, but University Avenue exit was entirely drifted over about five minutes ago:

Check what brand your furnace is and then YouTube it. It's pretty simple. A matter of pulling the cover off your furnace then typically 1 screw and unplugging a wire.

If you still don't feel comfortable then call a professional. But it really is simpler than you probably assume.

Would it matter the whole system was replaced 3 years ago and that I just had someone come do a checkup a couple months ago?
