*** Official #2 Houston vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Houston fans on their message board are not used to losing. They are having a hard time coming to terms that they might drop 4+ games in conference.
They be OK, all 3000 of them can huddle up for group therapy.

Majority of the UofH grads I work with don't even follow their sports.

I love your persistent musical weirdness, ah I mean, your progressive musical taste!

The internet allows us to explore the world right from our Lazy-Boy recliners. Good stuff out there for anyone who cares to look. And who doesn't love a good hype tune?

If Gilbert can not be out of control 25% of the time on offense, he is going to be an absolute stud. What he did on the defensive side of the ball was amazing and was a big reason for our win.
He understandably struggles on offense against teams that can take away his drives into the paint but he is deadly against teams that can't. If he can defend like that, he's a plus player either way. Really just needs to add a few percentage points to his deep shooting and teams won't be able to sag back to prevent the drive.

Nice win for State, but my biggest concern is the offensive side of the ball.
I understand your concern, but I’m not there. Houston was the number one ranked defense in the nation, and only three teams they’ve played against scored more than we did, none of which had the defense that we have. We have enough offense to keep us in every game we play.

Sampson didn’t give any credit to ISU. Seems to think they lost the game with the refs help, not that OSU won. Disappointing. Welcome to the Big 12.
Lol **** that. They were lucky they didn't call a lot more fouls on Houston. Should've been a flagrant 2 on Damian Dunn and there were a few moving screens and one really blatant one . Plus lots of others

We got #1 north carolina towards the beginning of last season. But that was fools gold given it was so early in the season and they ended up being garbage.

Here's our wins vs 2 or better

This may have been answered elsewhere in the thread by now, but was Oklahoma the Hilton Magic down by 20, score 22 unanswered game?

I put Self in a different category though. Yes, his recruiting tactics are sketchy at best. But ultimately he’s been very complimentary of other teams in the league and he doesn’t come off as an ******* on the court. I’ll take that over Sampson any day if I were other players or coaches in the league.
So he cheats with respect to the rest of the league. I see TCU got hosed in Lawrence already. We beat Houston knocking off the rest of the competition, and KU gets gifted a couple games at home. Seems like a typical big12 season. Bill's definitely in a category of his own.

I love all the Milan suggestions! It's so much fun trying to fit him a good nickname.

Glad we have Milan. He's going to be really good.
I don't know why, but I started calling him "Moms" in my head. Don't recall if I heard or read that somewhere first.

funny story from the game last night. Me and my friends went to Es Tas before the game. One of my friends had a dark beer and 10 super hot chicken wings. When we got to the game he had a Clone Cone and then at halftime he had a walking taco. One of my buddies told him with everything he downed he was likely to sh#t himself soon. Sure enough, at the two minute mark he left our seats in a panic, he said it was a photo finish to the bathroom. He missed the climax of the game, the final two minutes because he was on the sh#tter at Hilton. LOL

I'm with you but even with Houston's good defense, our offense against good teams has not been very good all year.

Against NCAA tournament type teams we have scored 68, 62, 69, 63, and 57. That's enough of a trend to know the offense is not as good as it appears after beating up on 300+ NET teams. The guys are still figuring out how to play together against really good teams and last night they made up for an average offense on the defensive end. That is great to see.

TJs comment at the post game presser says it all:

"We have all the respect in the world for their program and what they've done, but nobody's gonna come in here and pressure us. Nobody's gonna come in here and bully us. Nobody's gonna call us an underdog in Hilton Coliseum."

Houston was very handsy and with MM in particular were bodying him up coming off screens.

I think you are right. If ISU got a tightly called game they could adjust this year.

Houston got called for quite a few more fouls, got away with more, so I think it was about how you might expect. Houston is one of those tough teams to officiate. Overall great defense but lots of fouling.
They're not tough to officiate. Call the fouls that are there and they will stop fouling so damn much.

I didn’t say he doesn’t cheat. He just has a more likeable personality as he does it. He’s not in the Sampson, Saban, Bellicheck mold. He’s more like the Pete Carroll at USC type of cheater.
