*** Official #2 Houston vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Watched Sampson post-game on CTV. He looked shell shocked. Does he have a medical condition or maybe he was just pissed about the loss? Quite vague and slow delivery with his answers to questions. Anyway he was very complementary of the crowd, but not the officials. Put the loss on 22 FTs to 12. No credit to Iowa State players or coaches whatsoever.

Totally agree with King. The guy was tough as nails tonight and you have to be against Houston. That's a really good team we beat tonight.

But King with almost a double/double and making that huge 3, and just all around physical play really stood out.
Tre with that incredible 1:1 move from the right wing, clever spin to get into position to basically use his strength to back his man right into the paint - draws the defender ends with a great soft dish off to BRE for the bucket - that might be the best play he’s made as a Cyclone! A really high level play! THAT is the Tre King I’ve been expecting to see.

Wasn't there.

Flight kept getting delayed at DFW all day.

Landed at about 7:30 PM and got home at about 8:10 PM.

Just finished watching the VOD.

Great ******* win and game!

:D

Sad I couldn't make it, though.

:(

Showing up Saturday? Doing both games or just the men's? Just out of curiosity how do they split that up?

I'm not really saying that Ward should've just let those guys score. My point is that with Jones's rotations, he might not have let some of those guys get to the rim in the first place. If you're not able to acknowledge that Jones is fantastic at being in the right place to help and prevent guys from even getting all the way to the rim (exactly why Otz loves him so much), then I don't know what to tell you.

Yes, Ward is able to block some of those shots that BRE and King couldn't dream of blocking. But that doesn't matter on a night when completely unable to do that because Houston's guards were too good at getting into the body and forcing a foul. In that kind of situation, the guy who's able to prevent those shots in the first place (Jones) is absolutely worth playing. (I'd also add that Jones is generally more comfortable with the ball in his hands on the perimeter in the motion of the offense than Ward is, which was necessary tonight with how difficult Houston was making every single pass and dribble.)
Both Rob and Ward were pretty damn good. Rob gives up some offensive boards. He just doesn’t quite have the athleticism that Ward has.

Rob is legit awesome on switches and doubles. Like really good. Ward is good too. The fact that these guys can each go hard for 20ish mins means they can be huge for this team.

These guys are also asked to do a fair amount in the offense and inbounds and they don’t turn it over much.

We had 11 fouls (our players); they got called for 19.

I'll have to watch the game (radio only for me tonight) but it did sound like (John and Eric, they are usually pretty fair but do wear cyclone colored glasses) there may have been quite a few more uncalled fouls that Houston got away with.
It was pretty bad. Especially under the hoop on rebounds.

If I counted correctly, Fran has seven top ten victories during his tenure at Iowa. Now to be fair, he doesn't get as many opportunities to notch top ten wins in such poor basketball conference.

Just watched Kalvin Sampson's post game presser. Not impressed at all. He clearly didn't want to answer any questions, gave no credit to ISU, although he did say he respects the ISU fans.

Someone wanted John Walters' call?

I personally think Sampson was shitting his pants on how difficult the Big 12 really is going to be game in and game out. Especially on the road.

Awesome W tonight. Houston has some straight up killers. Just Dawgs out there. There’s a reason they are #1 in KP/Torvik/EvanMiya.

- Milan showed some real stones closing the game out, both the fade away and FTs he hit. What a stud.

- Loved what TKing brought down the stretch. Really manned up and grabbed some huge boards/made a few huge buckets in the later part of the game. Great to see.

- Keshon was shaky on the offensive end but he absolutely locked up one of the best guards in the country in LJ Cryer. Gilbert and Lipsey are an elite guard duo defensively.

- Finally, props to the fans tonight. Great juice and intensity all things considered - no students/foot of snow on the ground. Brought the Magic and then some.
