*** Official #2 Houston vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Tickets are being sold for 2 dollars now. Looks like a lot of people are selling/giving away tickets and are getting desperate,

I still lived in Ames during Monte and co’s last season and ended up going to the WV game for free. It was a snowstorm day as well, and people just wanted someone, anyone to use their tickets

I35 from Des Moines to Ames looks good to go. Leave a little early and we should be good.

Very sound advice but unfortunately I'm guessing many have already made up their minds and aren't coming. Wish more would wait and make that call once they could see specific info like this rather than making a blanket call last night because it "sounded right." Being the first winter storm this year also doesn't help one bit, people overreact.

How do you figure Hilton isn't the arena it once was? Because of the Prohm final season debacle?

Houston may have played in some decent road environments the past few seasons but Hilton's different. They're also due for an "L", and ISU'll be hungry and on their game after a poor showing in Norman.

I actually like us by about say 6-8 in this one. I think it'll be close all the way but we'll push the margin up to that in the final few minutes.

I'm surprised so many on here are so pessimistic about this one.

You mean the debacle where no fans were allowed into Hilton? It wouldn't have mattered if they won every game......Hilton would have been empty.

Looks like an unpopular take, based on the reactions, but I agree with you.

I think the lack of students is a significant factor. It's not quite as rowdy and ramped up without them. It can still get loud, but not as consistently loud without the students. That's what history suggests anyways. Look at some of our home Big XII losses in recent years, they've come over the break. We typically have had 1 or 2 Big XII home games without students since the round-robin 18 game Big XII schedule started and there have been a higher percentage of losses in those games compared to the the rest of the Big XII games. I think it's a factor.....doesn't have to be a deciding factor as the team is ultimately the most important factor, but it's significant.

Will be there yelling and trying to get some of these fellow old farts to get off their hands and yell.

TJ is 10-8 in Hilton in the Big 12 play. That's not exactly imposing like it used to be with Hoiberg and the early Prohm teams.

Speaking of Prohm teams...found this picture interesting from ESPN and Houston Cougars.

The big question is will we have more fans tonight during a blizzard and no students in Ames than Iowa mens team has on a 70 degree day with students at school?

I just drove about 4 miles in CR and it's a ********. No chance I'm going. Posting tickets in 3,2,1...

some people talk about Houston like they’ve played nobody to date
yes, @ ISU will be their first tough road test
but
Kenpom wins
31 Utah on neutral
32 Dayton on neutral
34 A&M on neutral
41 Xavier on the road

I'd add that Sampson is awfully proven, and his program has been stockpiling huge wins for years.
We're definitely their toughest road test so far this year, but it's not something they aren't up to.

It's Hilton, so I still figure there's a chance. I expect a true painful for the eyes affair no matter what happens.

There's travel not advised on all the roads around CR now, and it's only going to get worse as the wind picks up more this afternoon.

I was in college during Fred years 1-4, and it seemed to me like Fran fell in love with us during that timeframe. I don't have much frame of reference before that, but that's how it felt to me.

The guy's a CBB fanatic, and he appreciates Hilton's atmosphere and the college town vibe of Ames.
Whatever it is, you can tell he studies and prepares. He also seems to appreciate many of the the stories and history of Iowa State Basketball, especially at Hilton.

I would imagine he is appreciated at many other basketball venues also, because he is complimentary and does know a team's past and present history. His jovial Brooklyn mannerisms are great also.

If anyone isn't able to make the trip I will gladly take your seats. Hit me up in the direct messages!
I will DM as soon as I figure out how! I have 2 for free. Text me at 319-573-0840 if you don't hear from me ASAP

I was going to head down from Minny, but the roads were a little too iffy to make it in time for a 6 pm start. If it was an 8 pm game, I would have definitely made the trip.

are there no students back at all? Are the dorms closed? Off campus students aren't back yet?

Tonight and Saturday aren't part of the all-sport ticket package, so they would have had to buy single-game tickets in advance.
