Takes a real man."First to blame, last to fame" - Every O Line ever
They have a new D coordinator that was put in place late November, they had no film on themZero yards…were we not prepared for Memphis having players on the field?
WTF were they doing for a month? Doesn’t suggest to expect much development this offseason. We’re worse OL run blocking than we were at the end of 2022.
Hard to run convincing play action out of shotgun. There's a formula for us and it works. Matt refuses to adjust.Play action seems like the obvious counter to Memphis' game plan. Did we run it at all? I can't recall either way.
Look, we get beaten by good mac teams and g5 teams. Your high on either crack or cyclone kool-aid if you think our ceiling is much higher than that. Fiesta bowl was a fluke; be honest with yourself.
We're now 6 and 12 in bowl wins. We're not currently nor ever will be world beaters. We can't buy or attract high end talent, especially the last couple years.
We do okay (still far worse than iowa or KSU) at player development but we're still a long way off. Not calling for firing campbell, but set your bar at a reasonable (e.g. low) level. Anything above 6-6 is a great year by ISU standards. Keep some perspective.
You are spot on with this post. Thing is CMC knew it as well and yet....?
The man is true to his word about his love of the run game and the rest of the world knows it. That's fine if you have the horses up front or a top flight NFL type of running back. Right now......ISU has neither.
This game was almost a mirror image of the KU game with the difference being Memphis has a better offense. Both teams had poor rush defenses and were selling out to stop it while begging ISU to beat them passing. It was apparent to everyone very early yet it seemed to take CMC an entire half to figure it out in both games.
You scratch where it itches......you take what they give you and stop trying to impose your will without the talent to do so. I don't know what else to say other than CMC must really enjoy beating his head against a wall.
edit: ISUCubswin beat me to it.
Ok so do people not know that teams have a scout team that runs what the opponent runs and the 1s on both sides of the ball rarely face off during the season or does ISU run their program like a mid-90s Iowa 1A middle school team?
What am I missing?
Yes that’s the level some of the posters are in their understanding of the game of football.
These are the same people that wonder why we don’t run more touchdown plays.
OLine is ******* awful. Has been for years. Doesn't matter the players or coaches. Amazing what Montgomery and Breece could do.
The best was whomever it was that wanted more play action because thrir 2nd grade kids' flag football team ran it.
That 2nd grade team must have really had some road graiters up front.
Yes absolutely I know this. Do you know dominating our 2, 3 and 4 isn’t a good barometer of in season success?Ok so do people not know that teams have a scout team that runs what the opponent runs and the 1s on both sides of the ball rarely face off during the season or does ISU run their program like a mid-90s Iowa 1A middle school team?

I understand and that is why I will not be excited until they prove it on the field. That is what I was trying to convey.Itt's likely against like only the 4th strings if not lower but yes, well aware but that's the case for every team.
Not arguing that, but when you’re down 3 possessions for 3 quarters, you’re forced to pass the ball. Additionally, 125% of our first down plays were runs.We passed 39 times and ran it 20 and 6 or 7 of those rush attempts were scrambles or sacks by Becht. You can’t say that’s a stubborn commitment to the run.
Absolutely. I mean look at David right now with the Lions, finally playing behind a good OL and he is putting up great numbers.Totally agree. Look at Deuce V when he was at KSU. Yes, the guy is a good RB (and made the Cowboys roster), but he probably out-performed due to his college OL. Imagine Breece or David having well-coached, highly competent linemen. Both may have been Heisman winners. Breece was propped up pretty well by the media, but would have been moreso had he been running behind at least an above-average line.
I can tackle Sama with one arm tied behind my back; he's not going to break a tackle and he is useless with out a wide open hole
I will give We Will $2000 to watch Sama break your ankles (if you can even get within 3 yards of him).
Some people were drinking a little too hard it appears. @brentblum here is a good opportunity.I will give We Will $2000 to watch Sama break your ankles (if you can even get within 3 yards of him).
