Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

He literally wrapped him up as soon as he got the ball. It was the correct call.
Technically, I agree. But how many refs have you seen actually call an intentional like them when it’s not a hard foul and one team is up 25 late in the game?

I agree, but they were calling it tonight. The first one on the kid was intentional as it stopped us from what was going to be a layup. The 2nd was BS, you could call a foul like that all night long.
But as long as the rule reads you have to be going after the ball, its up to the ref, not going to complain.

Totally agree

Totally agree on the first. You absolutely have to call that on a run out like that.

It shouldn’t be but it is mind boggling how unathletic Fran’s teams are. Every single year, to boot.
It is astounding, and even when he does recruit an elite athlete or two, like I think Tony Perkins and Dasonte Bowen are, they are never highlighted. Ok, the Murrays were highlighted, but most can agree that he quite literally stumbled upon them and took them because they were homegrown, legacy, and had no other offers. It just happened to pan out.

Fortunately or unfortunately, Fran's system does not center around athletic perimeter players like Bowen and Perkins. This is why Fran has so many particularly african american guards transfer out of his program. Even if you have the ability to create your own shot and get into the lane, you are almost punished if you aren't a good spot up 3 point shooter. It is kind of sickening honestly.

Iowa was completely overwhelmed in every aspect of the game from the first possession. They looked scared and absolutely lost.

You do not get out scored 26-2 in the paint in first half unless you are soft as f**k. It’s not even about talent at that point - although it’s clear they might have 1-2 guys that would see any kind of minutes with us.

Lipsey has an uncharacteristic 5 turnovers, Milan played one of his worst games, Ward is out and we have a McDonalds All American on the bench. And we’re up 30 late.

This is just absolutely embrassing for Iowa. This is not one team super hot and the other ice cold like last year. This is being completely outclassed.

And by all accounts Gilbert took what was there and it paid off.

They're a house of cards. Imo they're well coached and prepared for games and Fran seems to scout well. So if they're hitting and can get advantages in fouls etc. it works pretty well.

But then if the other team just takes it to them, it gets bad quickly.

Fran is really good at putting together a game plan but his in game adjustments suck. If Iowa doesn’t get out of the gate quick you might as well just call it.

Guessing he's referring to Patrick and anxiety. He didn't look like he wanted to be there last night. Wouldn't have changed the outcome, of course
The couple of games I’ve watched this year Patrick just doesn’t look like he’s into it. I feel bad for the kid, he probably should have just called it a career after last year but I’m sure he was pushed to finish it out.

So here’s the reason, “dealing with some stuff”. What diarrhea? Constipation? Ink poisoning on the pale guys from their tats?

Good Old Leistikow out making excuses for a total and complete ass-whipping. You know what? EVERY team has players dealing with grief, loss, and the human condition. ALL teams face adversity in their lives and on the court.
